The smart thing to do would be to give Josh whatever he want
The smart thing to do would be to give Josh whatever he wants.
If we are going to be honest, we all know that Dwight is leaving LA, and the only two places that has room for Dwight is Dallas and Atlanta.
and between Dallas and Atlanta, Atlanta has a leg up on Dallas, and that is all because of Josh. Dwight can either choose to go to a rebuilding Mavs team with a declining Dirk, or go to a Hawks team who has Josh, Teague, Lou, and Horford all in their prime..... its not a hard decision for Dwight.
but if Josh leaves (and possibly join the Mavs or Celtics), then the scales now tip in Dallas' favor, as the best option from the escape of LA for Dwight.
if Josh leaves, then that is a for sure that Dwight and Chris Paul are NOT coming to Atlanta and the Hawks will have to settle for 3rd tier stars like Al Jefferson and Tyreke Evans, and that would just stick the Hawks as low level pretenders for the next 5 years.
It is about deciding about being winners or losers, if you want to play with the high rollers, then you have to pony up the cash, but if you are okay with the ASG keeping the Hawks as losers, then don't spend the money

Chris Brousard said Howard and his people have no interest in signing in Atlanta. Chris knows whats up. Howard isn't coming here.
Thank god danny ferry is our GM and not Sund. Sund would throw out maxes left and right.
Long story short; dwight isn't coming to ATL and we should NOT give Josh a max.

^ LOL at people who follow Chris Broussard .... Chris Broussard is probably the worst journalist in the western hemisphere
Chris Broussard report on Lebron:
1) Lebron to the Bulls
2) Now Lebron to NY
3) This just in, Lebron is now considering the Clippers
4) "Chris, where do you think Lebron will go?"
"I think he'll stay in Cleveland"
5) 5 hours before the decision: "Lebron is considering Miami"
Broussard's reporting on Melo, Bosh, Deron, Dwight, and Chris Paul has all just been as bad, and embarrassing.
Broussard is the only guy who i think is on the same level of bad as Steven A. Smith
The only NBA journalist that has creditability now a days and worth respecting is David Aldridge

And what if your plan backfires? What if we give Josh the max and Dwight doesn't come? Then we're stuck with Josh for 5 years as pretenders with a moron leader who's maxed out and without much flexibility

Dallas is a larger market. Dallas has two NBA Finals appearabnces in the last 7 years.
Dallas has an NBA Championship in the last two years.
Dallas has a Billionaire owner who will give anything to win.
Dallas has consistently been one of the elite teams in the league for the last 12 years.
Dwight Howard has indicated numerous times that he has no desire to play in Atlanta.
Dwight has never, under any circumsyances, ever, indicated his desire to play in the NBA with Josh Smith. Ever.

I think its time to trade Josh Smith before the season is over. We aren't getting CP3 or D12. The next best free agent is Josh. I personally don't want him back next year.
I think we should trade Josh Smith for Pau Gasol or Danny Granger. Both of those men will be expiring contracts next year leaving us the option to chase whomever we want in 2014.
Josh Smith and Johan Petro for Pau Gasol.
or
Josh Smith for Danny Granger.
I don't know if the Lakers want to trade Gasol or not. I'm sure Kobe doesn't want Gasol traded. Who knows?
I don't think the Pacers need Granger because Paul George is playing so well. Smith is a healthy expiring contract. I believe Granger is supposed to be back in Mid to Late February. Gives the Hawks the SF they really need for next year and the rest of this year. It gets Granger out of the payroll in Indiana.
EDIT: Gortat would be another guy I wouldn't mind trading for.

^ i was thinking the same thing
Toronto could be a good trading partner. Bargnani could benefit from Josh's defense and pass more than Horford, who seems to be on the decline.
but it would be dumb for the Hawks to trade away their best player and Ferry seems like a smart guy, so i don't see Ferry making a dumb move like trading away Josh Smith when Ferry has been perfect as Hawks GM since he started to now.

Thats great... its a commercial. They get paid to do that.
Dwight Howard has NEVER said he wants to come to Atlanta. He has mentioned the Nets, Lakers and Mavericks. But what do I know? A picture with Dwight and Josh says it all. Dwight's coming to Atlanta!!! WOOHOO!! Give Josh the max! BEST IDEA EVER! Tcorbin knows more than Chris Broussard.

1. AL's not on the decline. He's as steady as ever.
2. It's debatable if Josh is our best player. He might be the best half the time, the other half he is cursing, pouting or jacking up 3-pointers.

We're not over some barrel here. We don't have to sign Smith and hope Howard comes. Smith and Howard will come available at the same time. We can wait to sign both.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.
