J Smoov stays, Morrow shipped out

I got a sense this morning that most teams were not going to give us much for josh especially when the monta Ellis part got killed. I think ferry did the right thing. At least we will have him through this year and potentially in the playoffs. If there was truly nothing available which it sounded like there wasn't, best to keep him .
Morrow for dahntay Jones I don't get. We traded for someone 5 years older, heavier, and with worse numbers. Wasnt morrow already expiring anyway ?

Horrible move Ferry. ATL fans will not be happy with the ramifications of letting a talent like Smith just walk away.

Another great move by Ferry, keeping the Hawks' best player.....
Go for Dwight and its resign Smoove or cap space.

We should have traded Josh last spring, when his stock was at an all time high....
So many deals left on the table in the last 12 months.
And now we get to watch him walk away for nothing. Or worse...get resigned for another 9 years of mediocrity.
Woe is me.

Jones is a hell of a defender at the 2-3. He officially became our best perimeter defender THAT quickly. morrow was behind Jenkins, Harris and Stevenson on the depth chart.

its better than eating up cap space for a guys that quite frankly aren't that good.
Josh leaves, we have a extra 13 million...that can fill ALOT of holes. If we can resign him for 15-16, we are solid and still have space for a max deal. Either way, its better than the cap space Ellis or Humphries would have taken up for being mediocre or downright bad.

I'm glad somebody realized Jones was a great move. Even if we aren't competing this year for a title. it atleast makes it intriguing to have a great wing defender on the roster instead of relying so much on Smith defensively.

Hawks are going to offer Smith $14 million/per, and if any other team wants to overpay him and give him max money, then go right ahead, Hawks will just walk away with more cap and still have Horford and Teague

Good luck to Houston and their fans when the Rockets GM offers Smith $20 million/per

Oh well I wish I could fast foward to July. Not much going on now but spring training and the NFL draft talk where everyone will have beaten to death, lol.

Harden is the trade that made the most sense last year. Of all the trades we didn't pursue in the interest of keeping Josh, that one burns the most.
Maybe obtaining a top 10 draft pick last year. Detroit, GS and Sac were rumored to have been shopping their draft picks last summer.
And of course NJ gave away their lottery pick last spring for Gerald Wallace.
So many possibilities...

2 Months of draft talk should suffice until it gets here, and then baseball pretty much kicks up also. The Hawks can still make the playoffs, and maybe make some noise in the meantime..

This is what happens when a GM is not proactive (Sund) and waits till the last minute (Ferry) to make a trade.
Not really Ferry's fault. But a move should have been made last year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Disappointed, but at least we didn't take on Humphries and his toxic contract.

You keep talking Harden. Serg Ibaka just came off a monster year and got resigned. The thunder were not about to trade for a more expensive 6'9" shotblocker.
New Jersey was building for Dwight and that's the only reason they traded for Wallace to make it a more desirable spot.
Now the other trades, for picks, sure but maybe Ferry didn't want to be locked into ANY contracts.

Fair points, all.
But I suspect Josh with 1.5 years left makes NJ better than 3 months of Gerald Wallace.
Josh avg more points, rebs, assists, steals and blocks than Harden last year. They have one of the least productive frontcourts in the league. I have a feeling Josh and Devin Harris (both expirings) could have at least begun a conversation. They ended up with Kevin Martin and a bunch of mid first round rookies.
Josh would have given OKC a starter in the frontcourt that other teams would have to guard.
The conversation should have been had. There were rumors this year (2013) that OKC was interested in pairing Josh and Ibaka in their frontcourt, but had absolutely no ammo for a trade. The conversation should have been had.
It was Ferry's call to keep Josh and see how thiongs played out, ignoring the past 8 years to focus on just this season. It played as it always does. With the Hawks mediocre.

This is a joke, right? A Nets fan, upset Ferry didn't take your less-than-worthless offer of Humphries or Wallace
thinks he can speak for Hawks fans? Hey, kiddy, kiddy, kiddy, we're satisfied with keeping a top talent, being first in line to re-sign him and of using him to attract Dwight Howard.
And, if all else fails and we have to let Smith walk, we'd rather overpay Pekovic or Jefferson or whomever with Smith's money than swallow Humphries' lousy talent and oppressive contract.
The TV voices were just making NY listeners happy with their "Nets are leading for Smith" talk. Y'all never had a chance, unless you'd have offered Lopez.

They had no ammo in 2012 because they weren't going to trade Harden without getting a bench scorer back. They already were a one man bench, that trade would have made them a no man bench.
I get what you are saying, I just don't buy most "sources" when it comes to trades and interest in trades. I tend to lean on looking at the teams makeup and seeing if the trade is viable. Josh and Harris for, say, Perkins and Harden would have left OKC undersized and under gunned. I don't see Presti even discussing something like that.
Now we probably could have moved Josh for that New Jersey pick(hell, I KNOW we could have) but that would have been us trading Josh in his best season while we had the top 3 record in the conference coming off a year you nearly made the east finals....you don't make that trade.

I didn't see the Jeremy Tyler trade. I LOVE this trade and was hoping we would go after him. He is our best post scorer right now(not saying much but still) and has the talent to be special. IDK if he can get minutes now, but I hope he does. I really like this kid who was a lock of a lottery pick before foolishly skipping his senior year in high school to go play overseas. Even though reports of his maturity weren't great, he clearly picked up some post moves over there. His foot work is great, all he needs is time.

Talking about a selective memory. OKC dumped Harden because they couldn't afford to pay him. So, what makes you think they would have traded for Smith who was going to be looking for a big contract the next year. The only way we could have landed Harden is if it was a 3 team trade. OKC had no interest in Smith.
