Anybody else notice we're complaining less about Drew?

Post#1 » by parson » Tue Mar 5, 2013 4:34 am

Sometimes, I forget he's a developing prospect, actually one of our youngsters. He's growing: recently I've noticed that we're not complaining as much about his rotations, his player choices or his adjustments, which had been normal for us in the past.

In addition, I think there's a growing admiration for his play-calling coming out of the break. Give the man a timeout and we're going to run a play that gives somebody a great look.

Not saying he's a Popovich but the guy is coming on.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

Hes improving quite nicely as a coach. Cant say that for the team though. you have to show effort to at least give drew a pat on the back

I've always been of the opinion that coaches get better over time, not worse. (Except for Paul Westphal.) We've seen L Drew grow into the position in the last couple of years.

Drew has essentially been coaching for his job since day one, and has held up well.

His visit last year to observe EuroLeague coaches has served him well also.
Very good Xs and Os guy.

He's the only Hawks coach in the last 15 years with an overall winning record with the team.

I like Larry Drew, but I do not believe hes the coach for this team. ID like to see us bring in a bigger name coach that can attract other players. I am not sold on Larry Drew having the complete confidence of the players.

When the Hawks are playing well , I like to see the credit go to him, but when they play bad, i question his methods sometimes. I also think his rotations are terrible at key stretches in games.

I don't like Larry Drew but I think he deserves an extension with the team.

I still shudder at his needless tinkering with the lineup(a certain lineup will have it going chemistry wise and he will adandon it, trying to match the other teams lineup instead of forcing them to guard his....also known as the Avery Johnson). I hate how he will keep all five guys on the court if 2 of them are hot and leave better players on the bench. I hate how he doesn't seem to know when to pull the plug on his backups and insert the starters back.

but every coach has flaws. Drew seems to be great at drawing up plays, great at motivating the team and seems to have some solid assistants with him. I don't complain about him much anymore because I can't really point at anything he is doing that isn't more of opinion instead of mind numbingly stupid decisions.

I said a few months ago that L. Drew had gotten the best out of his roster. I just wish he'd use Al and Teague running the p&r more. Smith is not very coachable, Korver is a shooter only and we are just bad at the 2 position. He doesn't have many options. Our record is probably better than it should be. Credit to the coach and his staff. I'd give him an extension.

I am shocked they have gone away from the pick and roll with Horford. Especially in the last 2 games where he has been matched up with bugs that don't want to step out let alone show on the pick and roll defense.

They should be MILKING the pick and roll

I've been one of the hardest guys when it came to Larry Drew last season, but I'm really proud of how he changed his approach and adapted to running P&R, he did what Woodson never would've which is change for the better of the team, if we finish strong and do well in the playoffs then I'd be happy to give LD an extension (Words I thought I'd never be saying at this time last season).
