Josh Smith to BOS for Jeff Green
J Green has proven his worth the last few months.
His contract is manageable. He fills a need at SF.
Josh has flirted with Celtic fans for years and gets the chance to replace KG and play with Rondo.
AL
Green
And a Scoring Center could matchup with any frontcourt in th East.
Thoughts?

Hell no. I'd rather just have the cap space.

Re: Josh Smith to BOS for Jeff Green
I don't think he's a SF. Green's an athletic scoring 4 with average defense at the 4 and below-average defense at the 3. He's worse than Smith in all ways except he's better at 3s and at driving to the basket. He's a step down, yet his contract is about 2/3s of Smith's, so, like with Smith, we could only sign one FA.

Parson beat me to it. He is only effective as a 4.

Fair enough.
Corey Brewer and Sergey Karasev will have to do instead.

What makes you think that teams would be willing to give up assets for Smith when they could just sign him outright. No one is going to offer Smith a bird rights max so a sign-and-trade is pointless.

Future salary cap flexibility?
Josh and Green having similar skillsets and not meshing on the court as well.
Trying to get rid of a productive player.
Bad teams take a lot into account when they make questionable moves.

I'd love to do Smith for Green, we'll probably lose Smith this summer anyway and Green has only been getting better and isn't even at his ceiling.

So why wouldn't they just sign Josh and trade Green for picks or another player. This trade would make zero sense for Boston and they would never do it. Same with the Gasol for Josh trade in the other thread.

Jeff Green is only 6 months younger than Josh Smith while being a far worse player. It boggles my mind that ANYONE would want to trade for him.

Not sure what you're looking at - hoopsworld has BOS over the cap in all likelihood and just below in their BCS... and that's if they cut Pierce. If they went after Smoove, not only would they have to do an SNT with us to actually land him, but they probably would need us to take on salary so they can stay below the apron (the apron is basically a hard cap for a team taking an SNT player). For all intents, if BOS wanted Smoove, then they have to work through us.ATLHawksfan21 wrote:So why wouldn't they just sign Josh and trade Green for picks or another player. For our part in the SNT, I couldn't see us bending over backward for a team to take our FA. I'm not a fan of Green (on top of the reasons mentioned, his production to cost ratio is pretty low), so I'd want a fairly high return in terms of young players and assets if that's the guy we'd have to take back.

Jeff Green is definetly a 3. At 4 he gets bullied by bigger stronger bodies.
Still a no from Boston

Thanks for that. I've been curious on what Celt fans think of Green and Smoove.
Appreciate the input.

Lakers stink as constructed and with that coach. Smoove fits Dantoni's style, convinces Dwight to stay, makes them younger and more athletic, preps them for life after Kobe.
We get a real 7 footer on a one year contract which keeps us competitive for a year and leaves us with cap space during the more attractive Free Agency Class of 2014.
We have to spend money this summer to meet league minimums. I'd rather pay Gasol for one year than AL Jefferson for 4 years.
A this point in their careers, Gasol can match Tim Duncan's production/contribution.

What am I missing? What makes a sign-and-trade the only way they can get Smith. It's not going to happen either way but is there something in the CBA that I don't know about? Why can't they sign Smith and trade Green in a seperate transaction.

I would love to have Gasol but I don't see it happening. I would love to be wrong though.

They could, theoretically, trade Green separately. But it would have to be in a trade tht bought back little or no salary. It'd be much easier to just trade directly for the player they want (Smoove) and the tem with too much Cap space and a need at SF (Atlanta).

Noted. Keep in mind, LAL approached us about this trade one year ago. They might still be interested, if only for the cap savings.

Re: Josh Smith to BOS for Jeff Green
Im a huge celtic fan first (just happen to live in Atlanta)...............
This is a no win for either team. I believe i would shoot myself in the face if Josh Smith went to the Celtics.
Green is long athletic and is def a 3. He cannot play 4 hes too small mass wise. However, I do not think Green is a guy to build around, hes too timid. He isnt THE MAN yet. He defers way too much. Will be interesting to see him playing with Rondo as a starter and no Pierce.

Yet Green is a horribly mediocre 3 and has only been productive his whole career at the 4. He gets bullied at the 4 defensively and blown by at the three and there in lies the problem with Green.
Also anyone would have to be nuts to think that Boston wouldn't jump over getting rid of greens contract, getting a upgrade in Smith and being able to dump a few salaries, which would be necessary to make the S&T work. No matter how many Celtic fans say "no from Boston"
