It's unclear if he will be back next year. I am not so sure myself. I hope he returns, but if he left I wouldn't be as sad as I thought. Just wanted to thank him for being an exciting player. My favorite in the NBA.

I think he'll be back if help is coming (DW) if not, I think he'll do what best for him and move on. But, he is my favored hawk and I just like to say good luck Josh.

Josh was the reason I first started following the Hawks. Although I've torn my hair out countless times because of his play, I have the utmost respect for everything that he's given the team.
Josh, if you're reading this, thank you. Best of luck with whatever the future holds.

Thank you Josh for making Phillips Arena the highlight factory once again, you've driven me crazy with some of your decision making but overall you were one of the most important and one of the best Hawks of the 2000s and I have the utmost respect for you. Good luck with your new team if you do leave.
I still remember that 2008 Boston series where Josh was at his best and was tapping into his potential, he took it to KG and without him I think we would've lost that series 4-1 (the only win coming in Game 4).

I have been dreaming for this day to come, can't wait to see him sign somewhere else. He's overrated and uncoachable. BYE.

Wow! Way to kill the mood in the thread. Everybody so far has had something positive and good to say about Josh and you come and say this crap. See this is why I really wish the Hawks don't re-sign Josh, then miss out on grabbing a max FA, and later go on to have a mediocre season where we end up around the back end of the lottery(10-14). Wonder who will be to blame then with no Josh, no Marvin, and no Joe.

Yet still is a decent defender, athletic, a bit of a bonehead but fun to watch when he's on. Big part of the Joe era, with Bibby...and making the second round two years ago against Chicago...it was great having him here.

It was, I meant that if we hadn't have had him we would've only won game 4 cause that was the one where Joe took over

Should Josh Smith have his jersey retired up on the rafters one day?

GREAT question.
I've followed the Hawks religiously for 17 years. Josh is the longest tenured Hawk since Dominique. He holds a couple of blocks records. Not much more.
No All Star appearances, All NBA teams, or Division Titles. It's hard to say.
I would say, yes though. 9 Years. Though he led us in scoring just once and rebounding just once...yeah.
Let's just hope enough time has passed, so he won't get booed at his cermenony.

No. I'm of the opinion that numbers should only be retired for all time greats.

Nah. He hasn't done that much for the franchise on the court to have that kind of recognition.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/tea ... areer.htmlJosh is practically within the top 10 of almost every all-time statistical category for the Hawks so I believe he has a case but either way, this thread is a bit premature.

I wish him well.
But I really think we're gonna see a situation similar to Memphis without Rudy Gay or Golden State without David Lee. They're top producers, but their (old) teams tend to play fine (or better) without them.
Josh, with a strong PG and a real Center can be a good player. But it became obvious years ago that wasn't going to happen here. He needs a veteran locker room and a coach who pulls no punches to get the best out of him.
Otherwise, he might go the way of Jeff Francouer. A talented player who just never lived up to potential.
I took issue with his decision making and immaturity, but...
I also hated his shot selection and poor attitude.
so.....good luck. Don't call us. It's not you, it's me. I love you, I'm just not IN love with you.
But I hope we can still be friends?
(NOT REALLY.)

I'd appreciate him a lot more if he had worked with us on a SNT...

What is the over/under on how long it takes Detroit Fans to start booing him after every long jumper?
I predict next March...just after the trade deadline.
