http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/22 ... f-The-YearMasai Ujiri, the Nuggets GM is going to be named executive of the year, Ferry got cheated IMO. Not many people could rid us of the worst contract in the NBA and another really bad contract without taking back another bad contract or giving up picks. They really got it wrong this year.

But...we didnt accomplish anything.
He inherited a team with the 9th best record in the league (2012), ripped apart the roster and ended up overseeing a team with the 14th best record (2013).
They don't generally give awards for making your team worse.
The real test comes this summer with all that salary cap space plus four draft picks. This will be where Danny earns his recognition. By putting a WINNING team together.
Denver flamed out in the playoffs, but they had a pretty successful regular season considering their schedule and roster full of role players.
Tearing a team apart is easy, building a winner is the hard part.

This award is predicated on how succesful your team is. We became a worse team overall.

Jamaal and Geaux are right on the money. The award is for single year improvement. Ferry's chance to win it is this summer with all the cap space and picks we have.
In Ferry we trust.

I just think that GMs who rid their teams of awful long term commitments deserve recognition. Oh well, he has a chance at it this year.

Well I would think that it does factor in, but it's more about team success this year. I would have to think drafting, trades, extensions, FA signings, and keeping your team under the tax, while also being a successful regular season team is what gets you this award. Reviewing the Nuggets transactions this year; they signed Lawson to an extension, traded for Iggy & sent out some long term deals, brought Fournier over, signed Dre & McGee, exercised options on Hamilton & Faried(obvious guys of course), and they only spent about 68 million while being one of the best teams in the West.

if we become a 2 or 3 seed next year then Ferry will be in the running. This year, the Nuggets or the Warriors GM was deserving.
