The only NBA sports writer that i respect in David Aldridge just called Mike Muscala "the steal of the second round and Ferry did a great job".... and i was like "wow".

Muscala is a volume rebounder who can hit an NBA three. He is from a small school but was more than just a 7 footer on a small school team, he was a do everything star for Bucknell and won every year, carried the team into the tournament, and won player of the year for his conference.

Muscala is like Mike Scott, in the sense that, his measurements look bad in the draft, but his college basketball resume is just loaded, and the best resume in the draft.

It'll be very interesting to see what he looks like after he gets into our weight program. Remember, he attended a smaller school without the facilities that a major NCAA power would have. He'll either become quicker and a better leaper or stronger and thicker, depending on his body type.

Notice how none of his teammates appear ripped in the last photo?

Here is Kansas last year.

Love this pick. I wanted him more than any other 2nd rounder. Once he puts on weight, he has starting potential with his rebounding and shooting abilities. Best Hawks 2nd rounder...ever?

He's certainly in the running. Looking back at our draft history, I'm struck at how little success we've had after the 1st round (we've been lousy there, too, but that's another story). Here are the highlights, as I see them:
1985 4 77 Arvydas Sabonis
1985 4 84 John Battle
1977 3 49 Eddie Johnson
1974 2 25 John Drew

Fast Eddie was my favorite player back then, so I'm prejudiced but only John Drew was a 2nd round pick (didn't like him - played lousy defense and always released early to get the fast break. He only cared about his numbers. We DID use him well, however, by trading him for Dominique Wilkins). Muscala will have to become a starter to be better than Drew.

I agree, I like him a lot! Here's a short video I like that shows what he can do:

It remains to be seen also how he can handle NBA level talent, but I believe Coach Bud of all people is probably one of the best to prepare him. Bucknell lost to Butler in the NCAA tourney this year, and he was a statistical none-factor with 9 pts and 10 rbs. Not bad, but not great.

However, I think with some refinement of his abilities, Muscala is going to be a great pick for us.

Just to clarify
1983 2 31 Glenn "Doc" Rivers

I only wish that Muscala gets better than he was then DF will have really made a steal!

Muscala Tweeted that he was hanging out, learning the city of Atlanta with Dennis Schroeder...on Mike's birthday.

I like this very much. Hopefully they become great friends and spend the next 12 years as teammates and co-champions!!!!

Muscala was the guy I wanted my Knicks to get in the 2nd round. I think he has David Lee type potential.

How'd I miss him? Old eyes, I guess. Thanks for the correction. Yeah, HE would be our best-ever 2nd rounder. Much (much, much) better than John Drew.
