How to get Dwight Howard

Post#1 » by tcorbin » Mon Jul 1, 2013 1:31 pm

Apparently Dwight wants to be feature on offense, wants to win, and wants to have help......

Houston is the front runner. Harden is the guy, but they say that they will change the offense so that Harden is #2 and Howard is #1 on offense. that is what they say, but who knows if its true.

Featured on offense and wants to win.... it sounds like the pitch that Coach Budz is going to have to make???

Coach Budz knows how to use bigs effectively on offense and defense coming from San Antonio, and of course Budz knows how to win..... but can he sell this to Dwight?

Ferry can still use the rest of the cap on help or who ever Dwight wants to team up with and still make an offer to Paul, Josh, Iggy, Ellis, etc.

But the elephant in the room, that nobody is talking about, is Why can't Horford attract (or recruit) players?!?!?! Fans love Horford, inside and outside of Atlanta, but you never hear of other players in the league talking about if they like the guy, if they want to team up with him, etc. nobody really seems to care to be interested in Horford. I just wonder why no star in the league ever looks at Horford and says, yeah i want to team up with that guy, or yeah i can win with that guy???

Probably because Horford plays for the Dominican Republic in International competition. A lot of the "super friends" combinations that we're hearing about had relationship either formed or strengthen in International ball (Olympics, etc). Since Horford plays for a different country, he doesn't have the same connection.

And that would mean that HOU is ahead of ATL because they have Harden as member of TeamUSA, if Howard plans to play with them again...

HOU sent All Stars and Hall of Famers to recruit Howard.

We sent Danny Ferry and some guy named Budenholzer.

Everybody likes Horford. But he is a complementary player. I also don't believe he's in the same circle as the others.

You don't hear players talking about playing with Josh, either.

tc, if Josh Smith goes to HOU, will you be moving to the Rockets' board or will we still see you whenever Horford has a bad game?

Asik.

Y'all know me and Centers. If we trade Josh Smith for a defensive giant, after all we've been through, close your windows or you'll be hearing some revival shoutin'.

We could have a big and smart team with great interior defense. And, really, what offense will we have lost? Plus, with a Asik and Horford, we could play with a smaller SF. What would Korver say if we could offer him a starting role?

that is more of a positive news for the Hawks than a negative. Hawks can get a third star player like Josh, or Ellis, or Iggy, Granger?

its good that Howard is keeping his focus and decisions on basketball more than money or market

 come to terms, man.
None of those players is as good as Harden.
Dwight is not coming here.

Asik would have the same defensive impact as Mutombo, elite shot blocker and rebounder. And the same defensive impact as Lucas Nogueira once he is ready.

Ironically, a deep threat like Kevin Martin would be ideal alongside a frontcourt like that. And one of the 'D' & 3 guys at SF.

Asik, a healthy Lou Williams, a developing John Jenkins, a structured Jeff Teague and, of course, Al Horford ...

... and we're a good playoff team - better than this year. Add either one star FA or a couple of good ones and we're very interesting.

I would really like this team, especially if we could get a player like Granger at 3. I really think Teague is going to be better with Coach Bud, and Asik would solidify the defense. Obviously, Howard would be the ideal at C, but whether we can sign him or make a deal to get a C, it will be imperative to fill that role.

you can get Dwight Howard by treating him like a spoiled brat and giving him what ever he wants, and then taking all the blame when everything goes wrong

Horford and Josh are not on the same level as Harden. Horford won't give the help that Dwight is looking for. Horford is a good guy, but just not that talented. Sames goes for Smith. Harden is as good as Westbrook and that is what Dwight is looking for. If Gasol and Howard didn't work, Horford and Howard would just be an epic fail.

Well...not an epic fail. Horford does not operate out of the low post. At all. He is almost exclusively a jump shooter and passer. His offensive skillset would not duplicate Gasol or Howard's. He'd complement Dwight well. But we agree AL is not talented enough to attract D12.

I belive that Asik, Horford, Jenkins, LouWil, and Teague would not even make the playoffs if they did it would be as a 8th seed.

on second thought I can't even see that team getting the 8 seed. which team would we be better than? Miami, New York, Indiana, Brooklyn, Chicago, or Detroit if they get Smoove (Knight, KC-Pope, Smoove, Drummond, Monroe..... I think not). To add Philadelphia, Washington, and Cleveland would all be better than that team.

^ The team would have better rebounding, MUCH better interior defense, better offensive spacing and HUGELY better shot selection. We'd be bigger, smarter, stronger and shoot better. We'd have no more "fast breaks" led by Smith, jogging down the court, dribbling, wishing he had long, blond hair so he could shake it in the wind as he dribbled. **

On the negative side, we'd have weaker perimeter defense and . . . and . . . and greatly fewer shots from just inside the 3.

Smith is better than Asik but we'd play better with the latter.

**Sorry, that last one was silly but I promise that's the way it looks to me. He wishes he was Brad Davis of the old Lakers.
