IF HOU demands we take Lin, do we play this card?

Post#1 » by parson » Wed Jul 3, 2013 4:22 pm

Namely, if Morey insists that we take Lin, do we refuse all trades with him and tell Howard the only way he can play with Smith is here in Atlanta?

All or nothing?

I admit I'd like to have Asik but - the more I stew on it - not if Lin's contract tags along. If HOU can find another team to take Lin who will send picks to us, fine. It seems to me that we should remind Morey that he can still mess this whole Dwight Howard thing up. I'm sure DAL is reminding Howard that Dirk is the stretch PF he wants to play with.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

I can definitely see us saying we won't take Lin, and that they need to find a third team to take him. Not so sure the blackmail for Dwight part would work though.

Reports say that playing alongside Smoove was never mentioned in talks with Dwight.
They were, however, mentioned n talks with Josh.

Dwight seems to not care one way r the other about playing with Josh.

I don't see it as blackmail but as a declaration of how far we can afford to go - and a reminder that HOU has a lot to lose, as well. I see Lin as a $15 million blunder (2014-15), which would severely damage us going forward. We'd definitely have to let Teague go and we'd end up committing our offense to Lin (don't let the tankers read this or they'll be clamoring for Lin, even without Asik).

Morey admitted that his team will be hurt if they don't sign Howard - in particular pointing out that he had already given up assets to get him (Robinson).

Houston can't demand anything. If they want a sign and trade deal, we can not let them force bad contracts on us.

There's no way we take on Lin unless they make it really worth our while. Say, they throw in Parsons as well

I wouldn't demand Parsons (that is asking a bit much), but they need to realize that Lin does not have the value that they think he does. I would think we would likely need at least a pick in the deal as well.

I would be more concerned with them trying to pawn White off on us.

Lin would have count doe $15M for NYK only, if they had matched the offer.
For HOU, or any new team, he would count against the cap for $8.3M in next two years.

Asik, Jones, Papanikolau rights, Hou 1st for Smith and Atlanta 2nd and Miami 2nd.

That'll do it.

Robinson is in Portland now.

Why would we send out Nogueira? No, no, no.

KEEP Bebe!!!
If we do end up getting Lin, go we become China's team?
I thought it was funny that Houston was selling Dwight that they were the biggest team in China while they were attempting to unload Lin like be has the plague.

Did not know if that was official yet. I like that. Skip Pap's rights and MIA 2nd on both side and it is even better!

Why would we give up bebe just to bring in the Laker 1st? Makes no sense.
