Dwight not coming to the Hwks

Post#1 » by Jamaaliver » Fri Jul 5, 2013 10:26 pm

C-Viv at AJC is reporting Howard called and told the Hawks he ain't coming.

Howard broke the news to the Hawks personally that he would be signing elsewhere. USA Today reported that he chose the Rockets over the Hawks, Lakers, Mavericks and Warriors.

And now we don't have a date to the prom.

Ferry's list of failures is growing...

Skip the prom and get ready to date in college.

Explanation: don't sign any pricey free agents and save the room for 2014. Hopefully we can get a top quality lottery pick in the best draft in about a decade.

Which means we'll suck next year. Which makes it difficult to attract top Free Agents.

Cap space is overrated if no one is willing to take our money. Now our hope is in winning the lottery?

Refusing to trade Josh last summer after his career season is turning out to be a huge mistake.

Add in the fact that Iggy signed for a modest $12 million per year, and all that wasted time on Dwight has cost us more feasible options.

Not a failure yet, if we SnT for Asik, millsap is available still............

I really agree with not trading Josh SMith during the Horford injury season really is biting us in the ass now. I also think we should have signed a big name coach or attempted to.

Where does Josh Smith sign if we don't agree to take Asik?
I could see us not wanting to take on his contract and helping Howard and Smith out.

Is that a win? Aiming for Dwight and settling on Omer Asik?

Its a decent back up plan, only 2 years on the contract we have to spend money somehow under the agreement. Asik is not a bad player. He would fit in nice with the Spurs style culture and Horford. We would just be incredibly unathletic IMO.

Or

Nuclear option, Tcorbin or whatever is right, trade horford, dismantle, TANK

I agree Asik is not a "win". I want to build around Horford and the youth on this team. I am ok if we let Teague walk too. Play Dennis Schroder big minutes from the beginning.

Iggy, Horford and Asik would have been a hell of a defensive combo frontcourt.

Ferry dropped the ball on this One. Wasting all this time and coming up empty.

THe problem becomes like i have said for 8 months, MONEY means nothing if you cant get big names to take it. Ferry isnt necessarily failing if he cant get them to come here despite paying them whatever tehy want.

What i will blame ferry on is if we strike out this year AND next and Bud flames out.

I really thought we were better off signing a BIG name coach. At this point future FA signings IMO are tied to how well Bud does.

Relax. Howard was plan A, but you have to have faith that Ferry's plan wasn't dependent on Howard. So far we've missed out on Al Jefferson (no defense, black hole on offense), and Iguodala. While I like Iguodala, signing him wouldn't have brought the Hawks a championship. Let's see how things turn out.

The East is weak, with Teague-Jenkins-Korver-Horford-Asik you'd make the POs

Ask for Asik+Terrence Jones for Smith, huge BARGAIN

Thank you. We didn't lose out on anybody while waiting for Dwight so far. Igoudala and Jefferson were not gonna bring us any closer to a title. I'd rather have Asik anyway

It wasn't like we had amazing offers for josh to begin with last offseason. Remember this was when he turned down a new 3 year extension. Teams knew he was going to be an ufa and wanted a max.

Still don't want Asik, he does nothing for the team's future.

I would rather take sign and trade Josh for Amare, Tim Hardaway, and a pick

Ferry's a failure, now? Good grief.

Question: are we better now than we were last July? Another question: do we have better prospects now than we did when the season ended?

Try this: do we have a better outlook now than we did when the season ended?

Answer: of course. We have a Center for the future, a PG we really like for the future, we still have Jeff Teague ...
....
..... and we haven't begun to make trades. Asik, maybe? If we start the season with Asik / Horford / Korver / Jenkins / Teague and around $30 million on bench players, we'll be on our way to a better team than we've had in awhile.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.
