Hawks Preparing Offer Sheet for Pekovic?!?

Even with agreements tonite w/ PMillsap and DCarroll, Atlanta still is most likely of those spurned by DH-12 to make Pek a big offer.

We get Pek and I am happy, but confused.

Milsap at SF?
Lucas stays overseas for years?
Korver starting at SG?
Ivan not returning?

Either way, Pekovic and Horford would be a load for most EC teams to handle. We immediately become like the Indy Pacers. Big and strong and hard working.

But we need a wing capable of creating his own shot...someone who can play One on one at least a little bit.

Rumor has it ATL-HOU have ceased conversations on SnT for Smoove and Asik.

Which is why we would be pursuing Pek at Center now.

Not sure what there is to be confused about:

PF: Horford (18), Millsap (30)
C: Pekovic (30), Horford (18)

We could just run a 3 man rotation for pf and center and be fine. I doubt Ivan would get a ton of minutes anyway.

Plus, we'd have the option of going big: Pekovic / Horford / Millsap or small: Horford / Millsap / Korver.

Or anything in between. The more options we give our new coach, the smarter we make him look.

I don't know if you want to give much credence to Jerry Zgoda's opinion of what the Hawks might do. For what its worth the best Wolves beat writer Doogie Wolfson makes it seem like the Wolves will match whatever offer is out there.

So the site I'm looking at (http://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/ATL.html) says they got
26.47 million with the rookie contracts in place.

It is without KK who will be 6 million a year, Paul Millsap 9.5 million

So that would bring the total to around 42 million. If they paid Teague around 5-6 million, they would be able to offer Pek around 10-11 million dollars.

As a wolves fan, I am pretty sure Wolves are going to match any offer regardless, but would obviously like to see him under a cheaper contract. Why would the hawks renounce a PG like Teague at this point? Would they really allow Schroeder to start? Let's assume they do somehow sign him with 13 million (sure as can be Wolves match under that figure in a heartbeat), which would leave 3 million for a starting PG. No offense but I don't see them offering for Pek if it means getting rid of their starting PG.

I like it for this year and maybe next, but what does that do for the development of Bebe long term. Wish we could get Pekovic on a 2 year deal with maybe and year or two more team options.

Lucas is so raw right now, I'm not sure he'd be ready to be a starter in 2 years. Heavily used backup, maybe.

What's the most we can offer Pekovic? Not how much can we afford but how much is he legally entitled to.

Hawks wouldn't offer max anyways. GM wouldn't have Schroeder and nobody else at PG. I think they thought about Pek but decided to go with Millsap as 4 and Horford at 5. They probably didn't want to wait the situation out and lose out on everyone so they could get matched for Pek.

We should offer something like 2/$22. We get two years to experiment with Millsap/Al/Pek. If it doesn't work out, we simply move on. Odds are that Minn matches anything though so kind of a moot point.

Nog is rawer than raw.

Paul Millsap left Utah because he wants to be a starter and play big minutes, he clashed with Corbin many times last year and they couldn't guarantee his spot this year with Favors & Kanter on the rise.

So I'm pretty sure he didn't sign with Atlanta to be Horford backup.....

He would still get the minutes. The lineup could be organized to where he and al starts together, one comes off, ect. The minutes would still be there.

Yes, he's a Center and was top 5 in rebounding last year

Peks isn't going to sign with a team that won't start him. Someone will pay big money for him.

Pek would DEFINITELY start at Center in Atlanta.
He and Horford would be a nightmare for opposing frontcourts.

I agree. But Horford moves to F if Peks starts at C.

Horford would likely play both pf/c.
Center with Millspa, PF with Pek.

That is why a lot of fans wanted asik for smith or like the idea of shooting pekovic an offer. Having a 3 big rotation allows you to play matchups and keep players fresher longer.

We are very ok with Horford playing PF next to a real center.
