looool what a clown He has never embraced playing like an actual frontcourt player. He always tried to play like a guard and say that he is "versatile" even though he doesnt have the skill set and is HORRIBLE at it.

with that kind of mentality I am so glad he is gone. I want my PFs to actually play like a PF

Last year, he shot 77.6% at the rim, 39.4% from 3-9 feet away, 24.0% from 10-15 feet, 33.0% from 16-23 feet and 29.9% from behind the 3pt arc (for an eFG% of 44.7 from 3).

Ya'd think he could see he's great close to the basket and lousy when he strays out.

Im sure he has been told that literally thousands of times but he doesnt care. He just wants to do things his way and mentally blocks everyone out.

He never been a guy that liked to play in the paint cause thats hard. He doesnt like to take physical punishment and work for his 2 points.

He rather just float on the perimeter and take jumpers cause that requires zero work since he is left wide open 90% of the time.

That kind of mentally is what separates players like josh from star players.

Well now that he got his big contract he doesnt have to worry about playing the right way ever again. He can play however he wants and be a lazy low percentage jump shooter for the rest of his career.

Yep. Josh has already been declared the worst free agent signing of 2013. Ten years in the league, he's just as dumb as the first day he was drafted.

I'm gonna be honest - I'm sure Josh knows what he should do to be effective. It's just hard to demand that of yourself. How do I know? Because at 6'2 I'm in a similar position in pickup games... but it's easier and more fun to pretend you're Kobe as you heave up long jumpshots rather than muscle in the paint.

Dumb is not the same thing as lazy.

And don't forget pain. It hurts to score inside.

The trade off for me was that I got to inflict it also and usually would be in the position where I initiated the pain. Post play isn't just masochism but sadism too.

Fair points, but let's be honest...playing basketball does not mean one has a strong basketball mind.

Isaiah Thomas, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Kevin McHale, Billy Knight are all proof of that.

Also, the biggest concern most detractors of his signing have is that Josh is best at PF, just like Greg Monroe.
Josh is at his best playing in the post, just like Monroe and Drummond. Playing Josh at SF for extended minutes is not to his benefit. Or to the team's benefit. Playing Josh out on the perimeter is not to his benefit. Or the team's benefit.

Hahaha, no I'm not any of those profile names. I just registered to RealGM for the first time a couple of weeks ago.

You make some good points, Thomas Jordan, Johnson, and Knight are all awful analyst of the game. McHale is a pretty good coach though. Now back to Josh Smith. Smith playing the 3 in Detroit is mostly a defensive move. When Smith plays the 3 he'll more than likely get most of his points from fast breaks or easy buckets from the baskets. When Smith moves to the 4 that's when we're(yeah I'm a piston fan) expecting to see most of his offense. We're hoping that RaSheed Wallace, Billups, and Cheeks can persuade Smith to play like this. Our front-court line-up will more than like only include 3. Smith/4. Monroe/5. Drummond with Monroe and Drummond sharing the Center position while Smith slides down to the 4 when Drummond or Monroe need a breather.

Ill bet you any amount of money (like 1$) that Josh Smith will be a bust for you in 2 years.

Now that I'm done laughing at Parson's post I have to honestly ask how Rasheed Wallace, the poster boy for unnecessary techs and preferring jumpers over utilizing his advanced post game and then Moe Cheeks, the man who oversaw the rise of the JailBlazers is supposed to persuade Josh Smith to play to his strengths 10 years into his NBA career?

Lol, @1$. Josh Smith will surprise a lot of people this coming season. He's going to be playing with 2 quality bigs and a scoring PG for the first time in his career. I highly doubt he'll be a bust in Detroit, I respect your opinion though.
