Fab Melo anyone?
Since we let Petro and Ivan both go to China, why not take a chance on a young 7' footer for the league minimum. Not like we have too many players at the 5...

Re: Fab Melo anyone?
He is intriguing, but being let go by two teams in less than a month just a year into his career is pretty damning.
Like the other teams realized it was just a lost cause, waste of time.
He is really raw, and there were issues with character and work ethic in college. He sounds like he was chasing the money.

Re: Fab Melo anyone?
Boston supposedly traded him to cut lux tax payments but they also signed another Brazilian rookie center to more money than he was making. They look like a tanking team yet they saw "saving money" as being more advantageous over having their Sophomore C compete with two rookies for the position or even just develop for the future.
Memphis already has Kostas Koufos as a backup to the reigning DPOY Marc Gasol but although they traded practically nothing for him (an unguaranteed likely 12th-15th man and some cash) it is still a little disconcerting that they cut Melo loose so quickly. We had similar questions about Ferry after he traded a 2nd rounder for Jeremy Tyler only to cut him a week later after about 4 minutes of gameplay.
This brings up big questions about maturity/attitude/work ethic and even just talent. Easy pass for me, I'm not at all interested in having size just for size sake. It helps if you actually have noticeable talent/skill on the court or can get past a door without giving yourself a concussion.

Fab Melo was absolute garbage.
We're already set on big men for this season. If we're looking at projects, well, Bebe gets the nod from me.
