So, we're switching from a motion offense, where we trusted the movement would open guys up, to ... CONCEPTS. Better stock up on smart guys and 3pt shooters.

My first thought is that maybe this will give us more time for teaching defense, once we understand the offense. That might be a strength in this scheme.

Definitely feeds into the whole idea of acquiring high IQ players who make smart decisions with the ball.

I somewhat agree with the approach. With a veteran team like ours, it seems myopic to spend large chunks of the game looking over at the sideline for a play to run instead of just letting the lead guards and top scoring options make decisions throughout.

This, of course, does not include out-of-timeout or end-of-game situations where a set play is probably much more efficient.

This approach definitely requires a vet guard rotation willing and able to make smart passes at the absolute right moment.

But then I read a comment like this after Thursdays Pre-season game, just weeks before the season:

Our offense still needs some work. It’s nowhere near where it needs to be.

So...maybe we need a bit more structure early in the season. Especially if Coach Bud is absent a few games from his DUI suspension.

Well, if it were easy to learn, that'd kind of defeat the purpose.
