Hawks/Spurs

GREAT heart by our guys. On a night when no one played well (Spurs defense), everyone played tough. It took a miracle 3 by Green (we steal the ball, Carroll rolls away from one Spur, only to have the ball stolen back by another Spur, who passed out to Green, who caught and shot right before the buzzer) and a terrific curl-around-a-pick-for-a-10ft-fallaway (with 0.4 on the clock) by Duncan to beat us.
Teague managed the ball better and was money in the 4th - defensively and offensively (especially from 3). In the 4th, he looked like a "Player of the Month."
Everybody manned up tonight; Spurs just had more men.

You guys played well tonight. The Hawks are such a different team now. You will be a top 3 or 4 team in the East. Good defense and your shot selection is miles better than in years past. You guys have a great coach. Spurs-East in no time.

Thanks but maybe we were inspired by YOUR guys. This is the toughest we've played in a while.

I live in Detroit so I saw you jail sex the Pistons back to back. You guys have played tough the games I have seen. By the end of the year you will be playing tough every night.

No moral victories. Horford didn't rebound enough, Teague misses too many shots that he should be making. Too much of a love affair for Mack, Milsap took some really bad shots tonight. We should have won

We started the season playing well but have had a rough time lately. We need one more big man, as evidenced by Duncan's 21 rebounds.
Still, I think Budenholzer's been aiming for this game.

Heartbroken, I didn't see the 2nd half but very unfortunate to play well in SA and lose yet again.

J/K, but really....we're Atlanata sports fans. All we have are moral victories. And a lone World Series victory from 1995. We are a sports town that literally survives on moral victories.

This was a particularly bad matchup for our frontcourt. We feature an undersized Center, playing beside an undersized PF. With no dependable backup bigs with size on the roster. We've been a lackluster rebounding team for years, and frontocurts like SA are a particulalrly bad matchup for us. Horford has been pleading for more big man help with size to no avail.
Us giving up 21 rebounds to a 7 footer last night is an abomination and a result of a poorly constructed roster. That's management's fault. He acquired 5 big men (Centers) this offseason, not a single one of them has been able to contribute consistently to
THIS team.

Also, what will it take for Coach Bud to at least give John Jenkins a shot at starting SG in Korver's absence. His skillset is almost identical to that of KK, and it seems he'd a be an ideal replacement for Korver in both the short and long term.
I know Bud is a player development coach, but how can a young player improve on defense without...playing? If he's gonna get minimal playing time here, let's at least send him to the D-League and recall Jared Cunningham.

Korver is the best 3pt shooter in the NBA. He shoots at what, 45%? That shows he also has good shot selection for most part. Now, Jenkins has been a disaster both offensively and defensively. He can't shoot but yet he'll take a shot every time he's got the ball in his hand. He should not get many minutes since we got Lou, Kyle, Demar, Cartier, and Mack. A decent SG must either shoot or handle the ball well or play good D. He doesn't do any of that to deserve playing time.

No matter the stats, that's the reality. This team changes with a real Center.
Holding my breath 'till 15December. . .

Jenkins has been a wasted pick so-far. His skill-set does suggest he should be able to play the Korver role but he is simply not good enough to help this team as of now. We do need a center but I am not sure that Danny will go for Asik due to his cost and the fact that Gortat and Hawes are both free agents this summer and would be better fits offensively. Gortat would be a better fit all around, plus we may get the Nets pick and have a chance to draft a guy like Embiid, then we have Muscula and Bebe overseas. I think we need help now at SG,SF, and C in order to get that 3rd spot but something tells me Danny is not going to approach it that way.

Jenkins can't shoot?
Or is he struggling with his shot this season? Remember, he suffered a (back) injury in Summer League and is still working his way back. Dude looked pretty good last season. He is struggling right now, but it's been 5 weeks.

Agree wholeheartedly regarding Gortat. He would have fit incredibly well next to Horford. Hawks had a chance to trade for either Gortat or Hawes during last season. With Muscala and Lucas likely joining us next season, I can't see signing either in Free Agency next summer.
But Elton, Ayon and Antic are all likely gone after this season.

I meant to say Jenkins can't shoot THESE DAYS in the flow of the game

... At any rate, isn't Howard an 85% FT shooter in practice? That doesn't mean he's good FT shooter when it counts as we all know
