DMCthealltimegreat = Hawks4life??

DMCthealltimegreat i.e. DeMarre Carroll

Carroll is having the best season of his life. He's putting up about 9 ppg. He's shooting about 44% from the field, about 32% from 3. He's grabbing about 5.5 rebounds. The thing about it is that the Junk Yard Dog is nowhere near being a finesse player. He's a high energy, low skills guy. My question: He has a two year deal with us. Is he enough of a glue guy that we would keep him beyond his deal?

Lebron hatez DMCthealltimegreat.

Love DMC. But I don't see him here long-term. We need a serious talent upgrade to get to that upper echelon of teams. That upgrade will probably come at either SF or SG.

We get a Lance Stephenson, Luol Deng, Carmelo Anthony, Jabari Parker type of wing player and it is going to severely cut into Demarre's PT, limiting his contribution.

There's a reason Ferry signed DC and Millsap to 2-year contracts. These guys are stopgaps. Able to contribute now to a playoff team at low-cost while DF schemes to acquire better talent in the long run. Easily mov4ed in trade or simply allowed to leave next year.

I would have to think that DMC could have a long term run here if he desires. @ $2M, he would have an OK contract if he was a 4th wing getting 10 minutes per night. As a starter now, it'd take (at least) 2 more acquisitions before he'd devolve into such a role. Even without his lunch pail attitude, I wouldn't mind carrying him for that role for a few years - at least.

I don't remember us ever having a player like DMCthealltimegreat. I mean, he's the guy who comes in and just does all the dirty work and plays physical bothersome defense. I think every championship team has that guy somewhere on it. The Hawks haven't had anybody close to that since Grant Long. I agree that he and Sap were brought on with short deals (transitional deals as I call them) but I think both deals could also be looked at as auditions. Thus far, with his high FG% and defense, I think he may have nailed the audition?

I like DMC as a lifetime Hawk. He should continue to be cheap, and bring motor and defense, and even when we get better, he will still be a valuable rotation guy.
