The Hawks need a superstar.

IF just for one season, we need a 25+ ppg player. We need that one guy who can come in here and demand media attention and make our fans want to come out. If that guy becomes available via trade, we should trade away whatever it takes to get him.

We have had 30 yrs of suck and 30 years of being the underdog. At some point, we need to celebrate... even if it's the fake celebration of having a star that can't win. I would take anybody except Melo.
Who would you take?

A restricted free agent.

And we won't have the salary to make a play for him anyway.

Lance doesn't fit the bill. He's not a superstar. He's the next rendition of Eddie Jones. He may be good but he's not able to carry a team.
I'm saying... Love or Kobe or KD or Westbrook or Harden or D12 or CP3 or...

A guy that comes in healthy and can demand national TV attention in Atlanta.
I'm tired of turning on my TV every Sunday and seeing the Heat.

only chance we have a getting a superstar is to draft one. Love or Kobe or KD or Westbrook or Harden or D12 or CP3 are virtually unobtainable for the Hawks. We may be able to get Melo if we can convince him to come to Atlanta but I don't see it happening, not with the current level of talent on this team. The only way I could see it is if we do what we tried to do last year. And that is to get two superstars to come at the same time. Maybe Melo and Westbrook or some combination like that.

Lance is a energizer, a player who wants to win, but he didn't prove at this moment that he deserves a big contract.
He can become a superstar in the future, but we can't be sure of that.
I would offer him a nice contract, but not a max contract.

My mistake. He will be unrestricted.

however we won't have the money to spend. You are looking at projected cap numbers of 62 million. We are at 48 without any draft signings. He is going to take a max deal, which would price us out.

you mean the diatribe about how we should trade for a superstar no matter what it takes so we can have something to celebrate?

Tell me how that works out for 80% of the teams ............

No thanks, i believe in Ferry and what hes doing, I dont scream HELP after 1 season of HIS TEAM in the WORST draft in the last 15 years.

I will judge him after a full 2 years where he has real draft picks in a GREAT DRAFT and when our season isnt hampered by losing our All Star in the first 30 games.

Go cheer for the NYK, thats what they did. Thats not how you win games and championships. Unless you can pry a once in a generation player like LBJ away from the team who drafted him.................

Shortsighted post is shortsighted.

We havent SUCKED, we have just been the treadmill team thanks to OVERPAYING guys (JJ, MW) and terrible FO Mgmt. WE have made the playoffs for what 6 straight years?

Looks to me like we are turning the corner, dont look at the record, look at the facts. a very UNTALENTED team with heart and fight ill take over a loaded underachieving star team (what we had with Josh , Joe and Horford).

Horford got hurt, deal with it. We had 2 All Stars, maybe 3 if AH was healthy (teague). Hes not, season took a turn for the worse when a team who was thin at PF/C already lost their STARTING , 2nd string Centers and had ELTON "IM **** OLD AND 300LBS" BRAND take over.

I dont want to trade for a Superstar, I want to draft and develop a Superstar. One way takes talent, the other takes throwing money around.

Throwing money around is what got us stuck with JJ.

I like how you have completely taken the koolaid and have downed it. You're right, we don't have JJ's large contract any longer. We have traded it for contracts to nonfactors like Ayon, Brand, Korver, and Antic.
Right now, we are living Ferry's dream of having no superstars and trying to be competitive. That's the koolaid you're downing. Unfortunately, Ferry's way doesn't line up with what wins in basketball. Therefore, we will just be a treadmill team of a different kind.

Guys, diesel is the type of fan that causes front offices to make **** "win"-now decisions. I suggest you all ignore him whenever he gets on his soapbox.

Mike, Mike, Mike.... You obviously don't understand discussion from different positions. It's shameful that you follow me all over the internet and try to get people to not participate in discussions about our favorite teams. Maybe that works for a gaming crowd, but this is the NBA. This is the Hawks. Here, we talk Hawks basketball... And we do it from all vantage points. If you had read carefully, I said nothing about a WIN-NOW decision. Our fanbase needs something to get behind.... Usually with Atlantians that means a player... Like Prime Time Deion Sanders. Like Michael Vick. Like Terry Pendleton and Fred McGriff. Like Nique. The city thirsts for a superstar.

True fan, lets blow the franchise up and get that 1 superstar so we can at least cheer sucking?

Ferrys system works, sorry, because its the Spurs system.

Id rather have those contracts than JJ, sorry, and , you forget THERE HASNT BEEN ANYONE TO SIGN IN 2 YEARS.

The top FA was ???????????????????????????? Brandon Jennings? Monta Ellis?

THE Top ROOKIE WAS MCW????

patience my son

No. What I'm saying is let's try something that will get the fans back behind this team. You say Ferry system works??
This is what I mean by drinking the koolaid. What is your basis for saying that Ferry's system works? It looks like he has done what ever incoming GM does. Firesale.... Then start over with cheaper pieces while maintaining cap flexibility until getting that right piece.

Well, I've been a fan since before Fratello was coach... TRUE FAN INDEED... and what I have learned through several renditions of watching us try and fail is that it's better for everybody when you have a fanbase and what looks like a new plan.

When BK came in, He traded Theo, Deke, and Robinson. Then he traded away JTerry. Lots of cap flexibility. He started Building from the draft while signing guys to short contracts (like Willis, Anderson, Walker, etc). Then when the time was finally right, he took his hook and went after Joe Johnson.

What did BK do that was different from what Ferry is doing now?
? Sorry Panda, You may be new to this or maybe you didn't become a Hawks fan until after we got Joe. Either way, I'm here telling you that this is the same ragedy playbook that was used by BK. To his credit BK knew enough about the league to know that the only way we could get a star is by drafting one. Unfortunately, BK had one of the worst warrooms in the history of the draft because he was the head of it. Ferry has done the same thing. Cut expensive players. Gained cap flexibility. And lined up some short term contracts.

The problem... Ferry doesn't draft well. Ferry doesn't believe he needs high draft picks (no tanking). Because of the new CBA, Ferry will have a harder time than BK getting talent to leave their team and come to us. Not only will we have to overpay for a middler-star player, we might have to overpay for Middler players.

My suggest.. Gain the fans interest. Find a superstar on the blocks and go all out. If it's Kevin Love... then Go all out for Kevin Love. etc... Because right now, having an empty gate... and a team that doesn't win is not going to do much for this franchise.
