He's undoubtedly raw, but with that explosive athleticism and size I think he has the potential to be an elite big man.

Re: Prospecting: Clint Capela
Personally, I'm iffy on him. Looks like a 'tweener - has a game that fits best crashing the basket, but at 220 or so, how long can that hold up? At best, he seems like a stash candidate.
Still, he has the legit upside of a very good C (or, at least, a credible swing big) if he were to gain 30 pounds or so. Hopefully, he shows out in EuroCamp and convinces PHX to take him @ 14.

Re: Prospecting: Clint Capela
Sounds like a lot of the positives and negatives that we have with Bebe. I don't see the need to go full BK and just start a collection of similarly built and skilled players.
As to Big Dog the 3rd, he's my annual irrational love for a wing. He measured out better than expected and has been working on his jumper and it would just be damned odd to see the son of a Hawk I used to watch playing for the team. My hope has been that Ferry trades back with a team like Phoenix for their multiple 1sts and selects him and his Michigan teammate, McGary.

Re: Prospecting: Clint Capela
Clint looks like he runs much more fluidly than Bebe. Plus, no reason we should shy away from someone just because we already have someone with the same skillset when that skillset is extremely rare and in demand across the league.
I think Mitch McGary is a scrub in the NBA so I would hate it if we drafted him. I would MUCH rather have Adreian Payne or Jerami Grant over him.

Skillset is one thing but body type and position are another. If you can't get all of these guys on the court then it's a waste.

Re: Prospecting: Clint Capela
I see nothing wrong with BK's overall philosophy - just his execution. That Childress, Marvin, and Shelden weren't great pros doesn't mean that his philosophy is wrong. That'd be like saying LeBron, Paul George, Durant, and Melo as your 1-4 would be a bad team just because they're all 6'8-6'10 SFs.
Anyways, I want as many 6'11 long-armed mobile athletic shotblockers as I can get. If you're rotating them, they can play aggressive defense since they don't have to worry about foul trouble. If you play them together, your halfcourt offense might suffer but you should at least have an excellent defense which could lead into transition baskets.

Re: Prospecting: Clint Capela
Their frames lend them more towards help defense than anything else. You're at a disadvantage if you have one being pushed around on defense and on the boards by a bigger front court player and you're only recourse is to bring another one to get bullied. It's like a baseball team having only right handed sinker ball pitchers in their rotation and relievers. Variety is the spice of life.
As to BK's philosophy somehow only being flawed due to talent, well do you see Lebron, Carmelo, Durant and George all being 20+ PPG scorers playing with each other? Who get's the assignment of guarding 1s most the night? Who guards the 4s? Who accepts being the rebounder? The floor spacer, etc. etc. etc.? Yes you have talent but you have to limit quite a bit of that talent for a few if not all and force them into roles that they aren't particularly comfortable with for the sake of your team and even then you might come up short.

Dont want to take on another big man project. We have bebe. We need a SG/SF more than anything.

Re: Prospecting: Clint Capela
While Capela is indeed an intriguing prospect, I'm with Mace on this one. We can't build a team with a single type of player. You need to have a variety of skillsets that complement each other. Multiple players like Capela/Bebe can be neutralized because they have the same flaw: A lack of strength. A player with girth/muscle would dominate these guys. Horford, Zach Randolph, Nene, Elton Brand, Roy Hibbert, Greg Monroe, Andre Drummond, DeMarcus Cousins.
We need variety and multiplicity on both offense and defense. One of these types of players is an asset. I'd prefer to bolster our ranks with a different type of defensive big rather than duplicating skill sets.
None of this even takes into account their offensive deficiencies....

With a group of big men like that, you'd see this scenario play out every night:

AL Horford eats skinny, long-armed shot blockers for breakfast.
