Thoughts? Could this really happen or is it a pipe dream like Dwight was?

I'm calling pipe dream. Acquiring Carmelo would be great for the city of Atlanta though. This city needs to get more fans in Phillips Arena. It's sad that the hawks ranked third worst in fan attendance last season...76ers and the bucks were the top two.

Pipe dream. I think if Horford didnt go down last year, we would have had a monster season and Carmelo might come. But, I dont think Carmelo is going anywhere where he is not guaranteed to be a title contender. Our season didnt reflect that kind of team. Although, I think we can be that team if we stay healthy and add some more pieces.

Melo isn't leaving NY to play with an 8 seed, and that is what we are right now.

Problem was, with Melo leading the Knicks, who supposedly has better talent, they couldn't even overtake us when we tried to let them.

I dont' think Melo is the difference for us to be a contender, no matter who we have left.

Thing is, we aren't just some 8 seed. We were the number 3 seed until our best player suffered a season ending injury. The reason the Knicks arguably had better talent was because of Melo. We're definitely a contender with our system combined with Melo and a healthy Horford back.

New York had nowhere close to the talent that we did other than Melo. Take away Melo, and they probably finish with the worst record in the league last year. At least bottom 3.

Teague
Melo
Horford

That's a solid foundation.
Even better if Lebron decides to sign with a Western Conference team.

^Agreed. Get that lineup a defensive Center and some wing defenders, they'd compete in the East at the very least

I think Bebe can be the Defensive Center we all want.

I can only hope. But considering how weak he is and that he wasn't even a starter in Spain, I wouldn't depend on him to anchor the middle.

He played 15 mpg last season...ONE GAME A WEEK.

I don't think he'll be ready for the grind of a full NBA season for a number of years. :lift:

Of course Ferry is going to make a run for Carmelo, its a no lose situation.

If Carmelo come to Atlanta, Ferry wins

If Carmelo doesn't come to Atlanta, Ferry can go, "hey i tried to make the Hawks into a contender" and still keep face.

I think Ferry will keep the Hawks cap flexible every year until he lands a top 10 player or gets lucky and gets a super star in the draft.

The one downside to chasing super stars every summer is that we run the risk of missing out on top 2nd tier players who get wooed away in the interim.

Last year Millsap waited on us to finish courting Dwight. Next time, we might not be so lucky...
