Plan B, free agents that are not Carmelo and Lebron

Post#1 » by atlantabbq99 » Fri Jun 27, 2014 11:28 am

The Hawks can easily become the best or 2nd best team in the east with just Teague, Horford, Millsap, and Korver, which they have proven in the beginning of last year.

But even with that, Carmelo and Lebron are just a pipe dream.

Hawks are loaded up front and Teague is an elite PG.

Hawks really need a SG/SF, but still be able to play in Budz system. So that is why i think a good plan B would be Deng or Paul Pierce on a big, but short term contract.

A dark horse that could really help the Hawks could be Vince Carter. He has been a great 3pt shooter for a decade and in his old age, has shown he is a great teammate, locker room leader, and a model coach's player.

I really want Hayward but we'd end up paying to much for him, same goes for Ariza. Perhaps Jordan Hill, Gasol, and Gortat are a possibility. Wouldn't mind Vince either. I'd really enjoy a backcourt of Teague and Bledsoe but I suppose we would have to overpay for him as well.

The two spots we lack of porduction are SG and C this season.
With Horford back, or with any trade that would improve it, the C position is less important than the SG.
Korver played SG and SF behind DMC, but was better at the SG spot. So we need a player to boost this 10-15min at SG and 10-15min at SF

Carter played both position, and was better on O and D at SG than SF (still good enough), hit the 3s... so would be perfect for us. I think he will prefer to stay in DAL, but I would be OK to try to get him.
No for Deng, who will ask for at least twice what Carter will sign, to not bring more.

Pierce would also be a good choice, but I think harder to integrate than Carter, and I don't see him leaving BKN because they know how to play together, and will get Lopez back, so will definitely be better than last season. No reason for him to leave, unless it's for SAS

If we could get Carter and Gasol, I would be very happy.

I think C. Parsons is the perfect fit for the Hawks and coach Bud. He plays off the ball and is a great passer/scorer even on a team with a ball hog like Harden. I'm hoping the Rockets somehow sign Carmelo so that Parsons can be had. I will throw easily 11M/season at this guy.
GO HAWKS.

I would love to have Heyward or Parsons but I don't care to overpay for them and it will likely take an overpay. I wouldn't be too excited about signing Deng to a multi-year deal either. I'm sure Ferry and Bud have their eyes on someone though. Drafting Payne makes me think they are confident in finding their wing player through FA/trades.

I like Deng, but he thinks hes worth 15 million. Hes got A LOT of miles on that body. Id be good paying him like 8-9-10 tops

After acquiring Payne (and if he does good in summer league) would you guys wanna do a sign and trade of Parsons/Milsap if the opportunity presents itself?

I have a feeling that Parsons is overrated.
Not saying he's bad, but I'm sure he will be paid more than what he's worth, and doing it isn't building like SAS ;-)

I would rather keep Milsap.

Dont know if i would do a straight swap, but I would be willing to listen.

Again there are SEVERAL X Factors WE DONT KNOW yet.

If BEBE/Muscala are the starting centers, then Millsap is expendable. Especially if we bring Brand back.

If AH is starting Center, then Millsap is our starting PF and Bebe/Muscala/Brand/Payne are fillers.

If AH is the Starting Center, then trading Millsap for Parsons is not a good move because we basically would be trading All Star Production at PF for SF production in Parsons.

Make sense?

Al/Bebe/Antic
Millsap/Payne

It's pretty clear IMO what our depth chart looks like. Muscala is a borderline rotation player who can probably be cut without much loss, and I'd be surprised if we bring Brand back.

1st round draft pick doe

bought his contract out doe

And the fact that the Hawks have been WHORING him out at every public appearance the last 2 months

I dont think our depth chart is clear right now, thats just me

44th overall pick = not first rounder.

Bought out contract = we needed a big after the injuries and we wanted to get a better look at him at the same time.

Not that I'm saying we should cut him, just that we COULD and it probably wouldn't hurt us much.

We don't have much to spend in free agency. 8-10 million is one starter.

I would prefer Parsons to Hayward, Ariza, and Deng.

Teague
Korver
Parsons/DMC
Sap
Horford

Trades are more where its at for this team.

Trading Lou, Jenkins, Dennis, Bebe, Payne, for more productive players. That is what is needed

From @PostSports

" Martell Webster (back surgery) out 3-5 months. Which means wizards will ramp up efforts to re-sign Ariza."

I'd like the hawks to have a very realistic shot at bringing on either Ariza or Gortat. I'm going to be pi$$ed if the wizards end up re-signing both.
