Let's talk our final guy - Lamar Patterson

Post#1 » by azuresou1 » Sat Jun 28, 2014 3:26 am

I don't know anything about him, so here's a video and some comments from around the web:

Chad Ford wrote:Patterson is the sort of blue-collar swingman that the Hawks love; he does a little bit of everything, but has zero sexiness to his game.

DraftExpress wrote:At 6’5 with a 225-pound frame and good wingspan, Patterson is a versatile wing who makes up for whatever he lacks in size with his length. He is a savvy player, which helped compensate for his average athletic profile at the collegiate level; whether this translates into success at the next, however, remains to be seen...

He was extremely versatile, seeing nearly of his scoring or passing possessions as ball handler in pick-and-roll or isolation situations to complement his solid floor spacing ability... he will have to streamline his shooting motion if he hopes to emerge as a shooting specialist at the next level, which could be a major key in whether he’s able to carve out a niche in the NBA.

...

It is worth noting, however, that Patterson's 5.5 assists per 40 minutes pace adjusted ranked 10th among all prospects in our top-100.

In case you're wondering... he is right above Kyle Anderson in that stat.

This might sound crazy, but I think he can play a role similar to what Manu does in terms of running offense off the bench as a secondary ball handler. Shelvin does a respectable job of running a backup offense but it gets very easy to key in on him and sometimes our bench scoring suffers greatly. I think Lamar helps us take pressure off the point and also lets us maintain more continuity in our offense just by his ball-handling ability.

I can get down with Blue-Collar. If we can't beat them on talent, then we simply outwork 'em.

Hope this dude makes the roster. This should definitely light a fire under Jenkins' @ss.

This is one of those times I wish we had a one-to-one affiliation with a D-League Team. Send Patterson, Bebe, Muscala and Dennis to the minor Leagues and simply call them up at various times based on team need or player performance.

He probably makes the team if he has the same strategy that Mario West had, hustle, and commit yourself on defense.

He will be a rookie that already has a Michael Jordan body, 6'6, 225lbs

The youtube clip shows he is pretty good slash and has the strength to finish after contact.

I feel much more comfortable about the kid after watching the video. Thanks for the upload azuresou1. I really hope he does well in the summer league. If he does then I can see him coming off the bench as well. However, I still think We need to desperately sing a wing player through FA/Trade this off season. If Ferry thinks this kid was our solution for the hole at the wing for the upcoming season and doesn't go out and get a 3 dimensional wing player this offseason... He's going to be receiving multiple letters from me next season.

Some great assists, very happy with this pick. I would have like a bigger guy who can pass the ball, without absolutely being K. Andersen, but maybe we can get it with F.A.

I see him taking future spot of Williams if he can't return to his level. On SG, we add Korver, Williams, Mack when playing with Teague, and they are all more shooter first. It's like a new option in our system, and if we can make him look like a mini-Ginobili, it will be a real steal.

I like this kid, he has all the tools to be a Manu-esq player in this system: he's a great shooter, a very good passer, and like bbq said, he can slash and finish after contact. He'll be a nice glue guy off the bench.

I'd be more than happy if he develops into a Wesley Matthews Jr. type. Manu seems too lofty.

As a GT fan, he is much more offensively talented than Mario West.

Will not make the team. Will spend most of the year in the D League then nothing will be heard of him ever again in terms of NBA or Hawks. Should have traded up a couple of spots for Glenn Robinson III and you would have had a good SF to add to your depth chart.

Unfortunate truth is that he is probably right. For the record, I like Patterson and think that of anyone we could have taken with the pick, he is as likely as any to make the team eventually - including Tavares. Just that for where he was picked (as well as what we gave up to pick him), the chips are stacked against him...

There's providing an honest assessment, and then there's being a hater.

I don't think SBM has - ever - said anything remotely positive about the Hawks. He's a toxic cancer to this board and I'm not sure he's even legitimately a Hawks fan.

Dear God, yes. I didn't want to be the one to say it.

I consider myself a cynic and have tempered enthusiasm for most stuff...but this dude is super overboard on EVERYTHING.

What's even worse, he goes to other teams boards trolling their fanbase and making us all look like jacka$$es by association.

I would trade SuperiorBlogMan for ruhiel, tcorbin AND diesel50 any day of the week.

I would have gone with Thanasis Antetokounmpo. Thanasis has alot of question marks but i would have selected him just to see if he can translate his athleticism to a contributor on an NBA team. it would just be interesting to see. He would have also spent his summers training with Giannis which i think is a huge plus

I had a classmate in high school, he didn't have any friends and always b!tched about not having friends. all he did was put down other people, he just never got it how annoying that was. Blogs and message boards are a good place for those type of people.

Haven't noticed him as much as some of the others Jamaaliver points out but your criticism is apparently more than fair. I'd think there would be a better post than the one pointing the realities of being a 2nd round pick into the NBA, but I guess if it had to be said then it had to be said.

Lamar Patterson, the second-round pick obtained by the Hawks in a draft night trade, will play professionally in Turkey next season.
Patterson has signed to play for Tofas Burta in the Euroleague, the Turkish team announced Tuesday.
The Hawks traded for Patterson, who was taken with the 48th overall selection in June’s NBA Draft out of Pittsburgh. The Hawks will retain his draft rights.
HERE

No big surprise, him heading overseas. I do think he has the chance to at least make the team as the 14th/15th man down the road.

Once he adds some muscle and gains a little pro experience, we'll have a much better idea of his potential as an NBAer.

Euroleague is a good place for him to get some additional seasoning and work on his athleticism, if can develop as much as Muscala did.

^He definitely has the right attitude about it as well:

Lamar Patterson wrote:My goal absolutely remains to play for the Hawks and this is an important step to help me get there. I am going to continue working extremely hard and...will come back an improved player ready to contribute in any way possible.
