Hawks should not get Chandler Parsons

Hawks should not get Chandler Parsons.

This could be a really bad signing. Chandler is an ok player who is better at being a #3 than a #2. Who ever gets Chandler will probably sign him for 5 years, 12 million per year and that is way too much. Even if Chandler is given a bigger role on a team, i don't see him going over 18ppg. So 18ppg at 12 million is just over paying. With that type of contract and that type of production Chandler could be Joe Johnson lite. he is a decent player but his contract will limit a team's cap flexibility and at 12 million as a SF, he will basically be untradeable.

The whole Parsons situation reminds me of what happen to Andrei Kirilenko when he came off his rookie contract.

Let's play "Count the Strawmen"!

1) Who ever gets Chandler will probably sign him for 5 years, 12 million per year
2) i don't see him going over 18ppg
3) 18ppg at 12 million is just over paying (Really it's a combo of 1 and 2, but if you are going to repeat it, I'm going to count it)
4) his contract will limit a team's cap flexibility and at 12 million as a SF, he will basically be untradeable.

Oye. I hope you enjoyed jerking your own circle. Poor scarecrow can't catch a break.

12M for 18ppg is not overpaying if he limits his opponents to 10ppg, and makes his team being better than opponent team when he's playing.
The problem is just that it's not the case.

Agreed. We pay Horford $12 million for 17-18 ppg. But he's considered a bargain. This is the going rate for this type of production.

and truthfully, Parsons would be one of the most marketable players we've had in recent years.

Parsons situation also reminds me of Deng when he came off his rookie contract. A year later, the Bulls regretted overpaying Deng and every year the Bulls put him on the trading block, and they were only able to get rid of him when he was on the last year of his contract. Parsons is like Deng minus the defense.

I'm not particularly knowledgeable about C Parsons. CBSSports did a nice write up on him and other Free Agents.

4. Chandler Parsons, Houston Rockets: An all-around basketball stud. Tremendous shooter at 37 percent from three in a high-volume role. He finds ways to create looks on the outside, slipping through and behind screens in unexpected ways. He knows how to navigate space to clear room for his shot, and when he launches, it's pure.

Supremely athletic. Great big strides get him up the floor, and terrific leaping ability to get to the rim. The polar opposite of a slow shooter. He can throw it down and attack. As he expands his game with post moves and coming off screens, it will only get better. He's still got a lot of upside to his game, even if it's unlikely he'll ever be a 30-points-per game scorer even on a bad team. v Defensively there are issues, but most of them seem to be mental and coaching-affiliated (a common theme with Houston). He's athletic and quick enough laterally to stay with opponents on the perimeter, but too often when he gets beat he fouls or leads them the wrong way. Doesn't communicate well with teammates and needs to trust his help more.

Parsons is likely to remain a Rocket, and he's worth the money. He's a guy who can swing your team's fortunes pretty significantly, without making true mega-star money. That's rare.

I like Persons very much but am concerned about us getting locked into long-term contracts. Depending on the players, of course.

HMFFL, did you get a chance to look at the message I sent you this week regarding access to RealGM Archived material?

I'm having a hard time finding the new (old?) rules and regs regarding their usage.

I also contacted uga_dawgs, but he hasn't responded either.

I'm honestly not sure. I'm more frustrated by the overall lack of progress the last couple of years. I guess I wouldn't be against such a deal if we had offered it.

I just really hate that we keep placing so much emphasis on being a player in Free Agency, but then fail to attract a top Free Agent.

We have no dependable back-up Center. We have no starting caliber SF. We have no highly rated young players to build around in the future.

I feel like now, more than ever...we really are just a treadmill team.

Vasquez resigns for two years 13 million reportedly. I haven't had much support on here when pulling he Vasquez but damn that a bargain IMO. Really wish we offered that or more.

Lets not get left in the dust. Come on ferry make your move....

I have a feeling we want Evan turner (sigh)

I'm really really starting to like Ferry. $15 million per year for Parsons is godawful!!!!

Anybody who would want to give him that much needs a reality check.

13 million for Vasquez is a great deal and the Rap maybe got the deal of the summer, like how the Hawks got the deal of last summer with Millsap, but Vasquez doesn't fit Budz system, he has to hold the ball way too much to be effective. If you notice, Budz likes guys like Korver, Thabo, Carroll, Millsap, guys who are effective even without holding the ball, that is also why Louis was in Budz dog house for a long time, because Louis loves holding onto the ball more than he should.

Maybe it's because we are chasing any TOP F.A., because we don't need it.
It may be part of the "pressure" on other teams to act like you're interested, and then, once they sign the high cost player, you sign cheaper guys still good enough like Millsap last year.

In other words, I think Ferry was targeting Deng, but at the right price, while already thinking that he has more chance to sign Ariza to a right deal.

15m is great deal to pay for 16.6 points per game, but that number should increase, and his overall numbers should. It's not like Cuban has star players lining up to sign with him, so he must sign 2nd teir talent, and make do with what he can.
Dallas fans should be happy.
