Marvin Williams Contract Projection

Marvin Williams is receiving interest from the San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat, Washington Wizards, Charlotte Hornets, Los Angeles Clippers, Orlando Magic and Phoenix Suns.

I thought he might be a value you to bring back as a wing player. My question is what kind of contract number will be sign for?

I know most folks in Atlanta will always view his as the #2 pick we took ahead of Chris Paul, but if he came back under a team favorable contract, I would clean the slate on that score.

In like Marvin... liked him when he was here... but he should stay away from this team. People couldn't appreciate that he was our best defender when he was here because of his draft position...I highly doubt that people would look past it now. He will never live up to that pick but no other team has to worry about it. They didn't pock him there. Personally I think he ends up on a championship caliber team next year as a important role player.

^ i can look past it, but the Hawks already have Thabo, Korver, and Carroll, and also, people in Utah said that Marvin's back got worst.

See...an elIte NBA defense with a average offensive game and above average rebounder at his position but people wouldn't want him on the team with a good contract because we drafted him #2. Marvin Williams is a good NBA player...just so happens that perennial all stars and a probable HOFer was drafted after him.

Maybe he's gotten better over the last couple of seasons but when he was with us his D wasn't "elite". I say above average and wouldn't argue against good but a definite far cry from elite. One of our big issues was that we didn't have a stopper when he was here - and he was arguably out best perimeter defender (JJ was an underrated defender and Josh was so versatile and I could see the argument for any of the 3).

Yes, part of Marvin's issues were that he was a bust and his draft position had a lot to do with that. But I stick to what a poster here said at the time (paraphrased due to memory) "I have no problem with Marvin @ $2M, but Marvin at $7M is a problem". I think this still applies - at least in my eyes...

The reason marvin williams became a bust was he was never able to create his own shot. He is a structured system player. He never learned how to be an alpha dog on the court.Marvin was never comfortable handling the ball. In college they had him coming off the bench. If he were drafted by san antonio he probably could have become a good player. But in atlanta iso offense, he couldnt thrive. Before we picked up jamal crawford marvin was averaging 15 points a game. He glady accepted the role as the 5 option and even expanded his game to the 3 point line. Marvin can be a sneaky good pick for a team. With his size, shooting and ability to guard both forward spots. The most marvin will be getting is under 3 million. Marvin would have thrive in this new system we running. Thats why 7 teams is after him right now.

I would hope the book is closed on Marvin Williams. He never did anything during his time with us to justify bringing him back.

You guys remember 08-09 when he took a step forward and added the 3 to his game and became really good off-ball? I was really convinced that Joe/Josh/Al/Marvin core could have been great with proper coaching and development. It's a shame that team never made it further, I think the talent was there.

Anyways, I'd sign Marvin if he was willing to take a 2/4 contract, but beyond that I think we pass.

Not sure if I would want him back but you're totally right about Marvin. You put him on the Spurs and he would fit right in.
