Found this inside a "notebook" article on ESPN:

Was wondering what this meant for us - specifically in how this relates to Payne who was considered the best shooting big in the draft. If Payne can give us 80% of what Frye is giving over the next 4 seasons, then we come out way ahead.

Just putting this out there for discussion.

The reason I liked Payne even though he didn't fit a position of need is that bigs who can LEGITIMATELY shoot from 3 and are starter caliber are extremely rare.

Frye, Hawes, Dirk, Love, Anderson. Millsap can shoot but doesn't put up great volume, and Bosh's .339 is good for a C, but it's below average overall. For role players you have another few guys. Marcus Morris. Mirza. Josh McRoberts. Tolliver.

Payne also has the athletic potential and skillset inside to be more than just a 3 point shooter. When I see him I see someone that - despite his age - is still very raw in terms of understanding the game of basketball. I honestly believe that with our coaching staff and proper development, he can be an 18/8 guy.

Not sure about 8 rebounds, at this moment, he see him better at boxing out than taking the rebound.
Now, he looked better on the last two games, because I saw the previous game Vs POR and his 7 TO and 2 BA were

I can also see Payne being around 18 PT type of player. Rebounding might be about 6 per game. He can box out but doesn't seem to have that killer rebound pursuit in him yet. I honestly didn't think he would shoot from NBA 3 range as good as he has in summer league the last two games.

He's already better from 3 then Mike Scott and Antic but I want to see him do it in games that matter.

He does however need to learn not to carry the ball.
