David Aldridge rates New Look Hawks middle of the Pack

Yet another pundit who has been less than underwhelmed by our offseason:

"Methodically, GM Danny Ferry is adding solid, high-character guys to his roster. Payne...should contribute right away...Keeping Scott and Mack at reasonable prices is a very good buy; Bazemore could find a home playing off of the likes of Horford and Paul Millsap...

Atlanta has not been able to get a serious look the last two summers from the elite free agents, despite having cap room and great coaching and player development. That's something Ferry is going to have to address and correct in the near future. Rolling over cap room to the next year is good and practical from a business standpoint, but not inspiring to an already sleepy fan base. At some point, the Hawks have to seriously be in the game.
HERE

Aldridge ranks us 16th in the league, behind Brooklyn but ahead of Phoenix

This comes after less than stellar reviews/predictions from ESPN, Sports Illustrated and Grantland.

Man...it's been a rough Summer.

In addition, Aldridge mentions two positions that remain somewhat unsettled.

But the Hawks will have to likely make their call this season on whether Jeff Teague or Dennis Schroeder is their guy at the point

THE KEY MAN: F/C Al Horford. Horford missed the final 53 games of last season after tearing his pectoral muscle...Horford has missed significant time in two of the last three seasons with pectoral injuries after being pretty healthy his first four pro seasons; that's a disturbing trend line.

Well this tells me all I need to know about Aldridge. PG is easily our most settled position. We have a solid player and potential all-star starting. A quality backup and a promising young prospect at the position. It sounds like the perfect scenario for a position if you ask me.

Center is our next most settled position since our franchise player holds the position.

Just typical lazy reporting by ESPN as usual. I wouldn't expect anything different though. NBA reporting is in a pretty sad state, at the moment, outside of Zach Lowe. Lowe seems to be the only one that actually has a feel for each team and the intricacies of the game.

I agree we are settled at PG because what is the alternative?

You arent getting a Superstar or Great C in trade value from Teague. Teague is a good player, but hes not good enough to trade, and hes not bad enough to bench.

If we traded liked teague and Millsap for like............Kevin Love, maybe ha

Well, regarding Center, I think Aldridge was simply reiterating the fact that most Hawks games over the past 3 years have NOT featured Horford because he hasn't stayed healthy. A fair observation as the Center position has mostly been filled with scrubs and fringe players in AL's absence.

Also, Aldridge hasn't worked at ESPN for more than a decade. A minor detail, I know. But he's been a reporter for Turner sports and NBA.com for years now.
