Sixers fan here just wanted to say I love watching your team on league pass..its a shame you aren't getting the love that Toronto and Washington are getting as "contenders." Those teams have played cupcake schedules and will be exposed in time. Also I loved Shroeder after watching him humiliate the Harrison twins in Hs and Bud is perhaps a top 3 coach in the league already.

In my opinion you need 6 things to compete for a championship.

Decent Rim Protector - Al Horford
Guys who can get their own Offense - Jeff Teague, Al Horford
Perimeter Defender - DeMarre Carroll
2 High level playmakers - Teague, Shroeder
2 Knockdown shooters - Koorver, Mike Scott, Carroll
1 Player that can get to line at will - ?

Watching your offense operate its very similar to the Spurs, that focuses on Ball movement and open shots.
They don't have that guy getting to the line 6-8 times a game, however they do have players that can get to the line 4-5 times quite easily in Duncan and Leonard.
I think you guys are in the same boat..you lack a DeMar Derozan type guy who can get to the rim at ease, however Teague and Millsap duo getting to the line is better than most teams best 2.

(Wizards have 1 player that can get their own offense in Wall, and he is their only player that can make plays with the Ball....Raptors have no rim protection, Jonas is still Young and Amir can barley walk after the knee surgeries)

What moves do you think you need to make to take that next step?
I know Horford is a good defender but you can use some length back there, as well as an attacking wing.
I think Larry Sanders, John Henson or OJ Mayo would be terrific fits

I loved watching DeMarre Carroll harrass players in College at Mizzou...is he a plus defender or more of just a hustle guy?

As far as your OP goes, I highly doubt we make any trades or big moves this year without having our GM and him being on indefinite leave. However, this is coach buds chance to use his coaching and new GM powers of he wishes too. Not many coaches in history have that opportunity.

I still think Adriean Payne for Greg Monroe makes the most sense. Pistons get our 15th overall pick last year and something out of nothing. We get a legit three big man rotation of Millsap/Horford/Monroe. Monroe will help us a lot on the boards as well and I see him thriving being surrounded by shooters. He could also be our insurance in case Millsap bolts.

I do not want to see Payne traded period because I think he will be a very valuable piece. Plus he give us a backup plan if Millsap leave/want too much money. Millsap is in position to cash in on one more big contract. Mike Scott is not a starter. He is good in his role of coming off the bench.

Horford is entering the last year of his contract next year. I do want us to get Monroe. Rather just wait until the offseason to get him without giving up anything. I can see Payne/Monroe being our PF/C combo heading forward. Payne being a stretch 4 who can postup. He would be a good fit going forward and both are real young.

We need an elite rim protector.

Doubtful we make any major trades this season. We will drop our 15th man after the trade deadline (John Jenkins) if we can't move him in trade. We lose a 1/3 of our roster in Free Agency next year and will have ample cap space to pursue another player. We have been rumored to pursue G Monroe and O Asik at various times. So pursuit of a young active Center seems likely...whether as backup or starter remains to be seen.

I suspect Teague and/or Mike Scott might be dangled in trade talks next summer just to see what opposing teams might offer. I'd prefer Schroeder as starter with a veteran backup PG like Jameer Nelson to teach him the ropes.

Yeah that goes without saying, Rim protector/rebounder.

I honestly think the Core needs to stick together (Millsap/AH/DMC/Korver) and everyone else is semi expendable.

Now Personally i think DS stays (duh), Teague, who knows. Hes most likely to be dealt if Bud thinks DS is ready. Thabo is a 1 dimensional player. I like but dont LOVE him.

Personally Id like to see us land Montjunas or Asik or Monroe. But not sure at what expense. Millsap will be tough to keep unless he REALLY believes in the Atlanta system and way. I dont see us offering him a huge contract

I guess the Hawks need to get that big before CLE does. I see they're looking at Mozgov and Koufos.

Some quibbles:
- I'd put Horford into the "knockdown shooter" over "Guys who can get their own". Horford has some post moves, but he's more of a PNP specialist who is absolutely money with the midrange set shot.
- Millsap would be the 2nd guy on the team who can get his own... Eh, add in Schröder too since he seems to be able to get to the rim at will.
- Still don't see Scott as a "knockdown shooter" either. He can surely get hot at any time, but we should also note that the first 2 weeks of the season he shot > 50% from 3 whereas he's at 33% since. If I honestly thought he could hold onto his current 40% from 3 all season, then I'd think he's the best (non-rookie wage / non-max division) contract in the NBA. Alas...
- I'd add Schröder and Thabo as a perimeter defenders with Bazemore there to add some depth. Our 2nd team is truly scary in terms of D.

I'm in agreement with the others in that I don't see us making a big move in-season. I could see us readjust our bench (Thabo and Pero... especially Pero) but nothing major. I would think that our kids (Muscala, Bazemore, Payne) would get a legit shot at those positions before we push onto the trade market as well.

I don't see the fit with the MIL trio. Henson can block shots, but he's a string bean who is otherwise questionable defensively. He can post up on O (although his advanced metrics say he isn't very good at it) but we value jump shooters - at least to the midrange - and considering his weight, I'd also have to question his ability to set the pick (another skill we value since it sets up the PG on the drive). He's an interesting prospect and I could see him fitting in somewhere, but I don't see the fit here.

Mayo is... interesting. When he's on the team is supposed to be terrible, the fans love him; when he's on a team that is supposed to be "good", then the fans hate him. I agree that we need the "attacking wing" that you cite, but I don't see Mayo as the guy here. Our coach values efficiency and taking good shot whereas every time I've seen Mayo he seems content to jack up contested long 2's and that won't cut it here. And the next time I see him being slightly interested on the D side might be the 1st time I've seen it.

OTOH, I could see Sanders as a fit on the court.I mean, you can make some adjustments when you get a C who is a DPotY candidate. My ? is off the court. Would he fit in a locker room dominated by hard working vets and unassuming younger players? Would he be a willing participant at team dinners (photo in another thread here)? If I honestly thought there was a chance in h3ll he could interact with everyone in a positive manner, then I would think we would put a strong offer on the table. How it is...
