DMC getting MRI on his Achilles........ Team doesn't believe its serious.

THABO out minimum 6-8 weeks (some say rest of reg season)

DMC hurts and Thabo defense has been huge. I hope this is the least of our problems moving forward. Lets home DMC is not seriously hurt, would be a major blow

Just posted in GT but I think missing those two was one of the factors to the 2nd 1/2 last night. Without them, we have a lot of guys playing out of position and the team can look discombobulated on both O & D at times.

At this point, I'm OK with getting the guys some rest and gearing up for a playoff run, but I'd still like to land a vet 3 to bridge the gap for the rest of the season. Problem is that he'd need to fit like a glove into our scheme while always being someone who can take a seat as we get Demarre and Thabo back. That's a tough fit and I don't see an obvious guy out there. (And before he's thrown out there - God no to Wilson Chandler.)

That guy doesn't exist(at least, not an available guy).

Those two are just special defensively and Thabos skill set with the bench (basically a point forward skill wise with a great eye for backcuts) is a other tough find.

Austin Daye is out there somewhere and knows the system but the downside being that he is Austin Daye.

But wouldn't we have to cut someone? I don't know how I would feel about that chemistry wise...especially if the guy isn't a long term signing.

I have us as the clear cut favorite in the East as a healthy team. Without DMC and Thabo, we are probably 4th-6th in the East. Their play is huge for what we do.

I would like to see us go after T. Prince if Carroll is going to miss some time. Please lawd let Carroll come back this week. This is the wrong week to be short on the wing.

Didn't say that he necessarily needed to know our system (although it wouldn't hurt), just that he'd fit in - both on and off the court. What I'd think we'd need would is someone to keep Korver from having to guard a tougher assignment on D - Baze runs 6'3.5" and he would be the next tallest perimeter player on the roster, and I can't see putting that on the opposing SF for much more than emergencies and spot situations.

I posted this on the T&T board and some of the more interesting names that could be a match: Jae Crowder, LMAM, Kirilenko, Jeff Taylor. All would be cheap acquisitions that could fill the hole for a couple of months while we wait on Thabo and could carve out a niche going forward as well. Hopefully, we'll unearth some names throughout the night.

Yeah, but again, wouldn't we have to cut someone? Realistically the guys we could possibly cut are Muscala and Jenkins. And I wouldn't want to cut either of them for the guys you just named.

I would actually take a chance on one wing player who could play D and has a bit of a 3pt if he is healthy and in shape; should be rested in any case, vet Mickael Pietrus.

We should just let Jenkins get some more burn at the two spot. This is what he's on the team to do, let's give him his chance.

Hawks having film session and meeting at hotel this morning. Will update status of DeMarre Carroll (who traveled) later today. #ATLHawks

Thats good to hear, if he traveled his MRI must have been clean

That is one the major concern with the Hawks. Healthy they have shown they can compete with anyone in the league. If they start suffering injuries then they could be in major trouble.

I figured on a trade. Jenkins + a 2nd or 2 (ours + TOR's, both should be 50+) would be the default, but depending on the deal, I wouldn't mind putting in Mack or even Scott.

If it came to flat cutting someone, then I'd have to think that it'd be Jenkins.

I really liked Pietrus throughout his career, but at this point, I'd think that someone would have to be *really* desperate to sign him. He hasn't played in 2 years (more like 3 when you consider he didn't play in 20 games in '12-'13) and was pretty terrible at the end... so "well-rested" is putting it very mildly.

If we do make a trade it should be for Payne unless it's a clear win. If someone else goes down for a long stretch I think we should package Payne with a bunch of picks and get a guy that can hopefully fill any new gaps and play multiple positions. I just don't think it's worth risking a trade involving a guy that is clearly good for chemistry. Only guys like Payne or Jenkins who aren't really involved.

That's fair, but two things:
1) I'd think that dealing Payne without having played him this season would mean that the other team would be expecting him for pennies on the dollar and I don't think we're ready to do that yet.
2) I can see the "involved" (good word choice btw) comment with Scott, but I'm not sure I'd say that Mack has been that involved. He lost the backup PG slot to Schröder in camp and now looks to have lost the combo G role to Bazemore. In the current W streak, he's played > 10 minutes in 2 games - the two "resting starters" games in the PHI/BOS b2b. He's been hurt a lot and sometimes that leads to less involvement with the team and the team's activities. Just seems that in every step of the way Mack has been thrust further and further from the court.

Mack doesnt fit what this team has IMO, size/length he lacks. Look how long our roster is. Mack is just not suitable.

Would love to see the breakdown of our players wingspans and see where they fit in.

Payne is a 1st round pick, hes not going anywhere IMO, hes in development.

FYI, Mack was measured at the combine as 6'1" (w/o shoes) and a 6'7.5" wingspan. A +6.5 is ridiculous and would rate with anyone on the roster outside of Millsap and Payne.

I hope DMC comes back soon I VASTLY underrated his importance to the team.

EDIT: Looks like I was late to the party he returned last game.

Compare to Teague and Schroeder for me

Compare to Teague and Schroeder for me

Schröder:6'1" / 6'7.75"

Teague: 6'0.25" / 6'7.5" (Aside: I knew he was long, but I thought he was a bit taller. If I had checked, I would have put him in the group with Millsap and Payne.)

Now that I'm on my computer - here's the link for Mack

Man just looking at them, Schroeder seems like Mr. Fantastic in wingspan vs Mack
