Kyle Korver's versatility

So it seems that the perception is that Korver is nothing more than a one dimensional spot up shooter. Well, over the course of the season, I've come to the conclusion that Korver is more well rounded than people give him credit for. He's a good defender (he seems to block a bunch of shots for a 2 guard, and after doing some research, he actually has a better per-game block rate than Jimmy Butler and Victor Oladipo) both on the ball and off it. And he's a really good rebounder (10th among SG's) for his position. So why doesn't he get more recognition for those aspects of his game?

I think a couple of things play into both arguments.

I think people say he is only a spot up shooter mainly because he is white and that's the one thing he is really good at. If this was all he was good at, he wouldn't get as much time on the floor as he does. He is a very good help defender and has a high basketball IQ.

On the opposite side, you can look at his other numbers relative to other 2 guards as a function of his height. Outside of Antetekounmpo and a few select others, there aren't very many starting 2 guards 6'7" or taller in this league, which helps blocks and rebounds significantly. Blocks specfically, I have seen him come over and block a few layups as the help defender, and while he isn't a great 1 on 1 defender, he does his job on the floor with the team. When it comes to rebounds, nobody on the team is a really great rebounder, so there are boards to go around for all the Hawks players. It also helps that he is listed as the same height as Carroll and Millsap without shoes.

So the answer is-he IS more than a spot up shooter, but I wouldn't just say he's a great versatile utility player :D
