Would you take pick #3 in this draft for

Pick #15 + 50 Walter Taveras and Dennis Schreoder

Yes. You can wait for the others to chime in but my answer is yes every single time.

I think the reason being is I am completely sold on the D'Angelo Russell hype. I really feel like he is a star in the making. I am assuming that KAT & Okafor would be off the board at #3 so Russell would be my next guy to take from tier 1. And the opportunity to bring a franchise player to ATL (something we haven't had since Domique) doesn't just happen everyday.

I really, really, really like Schröder but I would pull the trigger on this.

I'd strongly consider it. Maybe ask for some minor alterations. in our compensation.

I love Dennis, consider him a future building block of the team. but I view a few of the guys in this draft as superstar potential.

Particularly Porzingis and Justice Winslow. (younger versions of Dirk and Kawhi?)

It's a definite maybe. DS is good. But there be competent PGs all over the league at this point.

What team are you theorizing we'd be trading with?

The kid can ball. No doubt. But he reminds me a bit of Melo. Can score big time, but the other holes in his game (defense) kind of negate that.

Absolutely not.

2 firsts + depleting our big man project for a "maybe"?

At 3 the 2 SUREFIREs are gone (towns and Okafor). Absolutely not even interested. Would rather gamble with 15 than risk a proven KNOWN (DS) , Tavares (unknowN) AND this years 1st and second?

Essentially it would be this

IF Towns and Okafor were gone

The Knicks would trade pick # 3 to Atlanta

The Hawks would trade picks 15 and 59 to the Timberwolves

The KNicks would get picks 31+50 Shabazz Muhammed Dennis Schreoder Walter Taveras

Question for Hawks fans

Post#6 » by ATL Boy » Thu Apr 23, 2015 6:20 pm

I'm with Panda here. If this package is for a top 2 pick with Jhalil or Towns then sure. But not for anything outside that. I like Dennis too much, and our first this year is pretty valuable at 15.

I think Teague+15th pick would do it for me. I do think Dennis can be special, by that I mean an elite PG in this league, so I wouldn't trade him. Teague is good, but he's probably as good now as he'll ever be given that the type of offense we run.

First off appreciate the friendly responses--not every board is like that. I thought it might be a win-win for both teams--Im asking for a good haul--but Im also giving a 60+ win team a #3 pick in a draft that has potential franchise players you may not be able to get otherwise for a long time. You'd be giving up only the back up PG on a 60 win team--obviously hes good--but like someone said above--you could replace him with Russell who could be the next Clyde Frazier at 6-5. And pick 3 really is that top pick in the next tier--you get your choice of Russell Winslow Mudiay Hezonga--not getting any of those guys at 15--15 is where the draft becomes somewhat unstable.

I'd rather keep talent and gamble at 15 and FA THEN giving up talent to gamble at 3.

Just my personal opinion. Towns and Okafor are the only "sure things" in this draft to me.

Even then look at Jabari from this year, #2 pick, tears ACL 20 games in. Nothing in draft is "guaranteed". Even Embiid was like 2 days before the draft bad news.

I think the legwork we did to acquire/scout DS and develop him isn't worth trading for unknowns.

Tough decision for me, I like Russell a lot and although I'm not a great Teague fan I think that they could be explosive together both playing in the backcourt at the same time and Russell likely being a super 6th man to start his career. As a much purer scorer I think Russell would increase the dynamic that has made this team so successful more so than Dennis has. Dennis and #15 with the throwaway late 2nd are more than fair compensation, more likely even a steal for the Hawks, but I draw the line at Edy. I really like his potential and think that he could produce much in the same way that Rudy Gobert has for Utah so that would push this trade into the steal for the other team range. Giving up a potential top 15 C and PG and a pick that could be a rotation guy on a contending team for a potential top 5 SG just seems like a trade I wouldn't be interested in right now. I think there is room to negotiate but wouldn't bat an eye if both teams walked away from the table.

No. That's giving up too much for a player that isn't an upgrade over any of the starters they have now.

Since I consider myself an honorary Hawks fan (I watch way more Hawks games than Laker games), I don't think that it would be a smart deal. DS could be really, really special, Taveras is a wild-card, and the 15 pick is pretty good.

Now if it was the #2 pick......

Totally agree. Way too early to Ennis after year 2 and only 20 years old.
I would check that at the end of next year if he plateaus but to mehe is untradable at the moment We might have a gem here andyou wouldlik e to throw it away while still raw? I was OK with the deal until I SAW DEnnis in. I was expecting another name or actually more like a combinationo f names e.g. Tavares Muscala and maybe Scott...
