Danny Ferry is not expected to remain with the Atlanta Hawks as new ownership takes over the franchise.

Ferry has been on indefinite leave following the release of a racially insensitive report about Luol Deng.

Mike Budenholzer is expected to receive a new contract with increased responsibility and assistant general manager Wes Wilcox likely will be at the top of the basketball operations department, at least for the next year.

The Hawks' organization believes they now have a stable structure within the basketball department without Ferry.

Well, I can't say that this is a surprise.

I don't like the move, but i'm also not that concerned about it one way or the other to put up any sort of fight or argument.

It's all speculation at this point.

Not surprising at the least.
I wish Danny Ferry the best in the future. I love what he did for us so I hope he has success in the future and remains within the NBA.

Hawks are planning on promoting coach Bud to president of basketball operations and Wes Wilcox to GM. I think this solidifies coach Bud staying and signing a new contract, there's not many people that would walk away from this kind of power just to start over somewhere else.

Yeppers. This pretty much cements Budenholzer (as diesel50 used to say) Hawk4Life.

He just became Bobby Cox in the 1990s Braves. Hope he's ready. His insistsence in SAS grabbing Kawhi was brilliant. But his participation in us drafting Adreian was short-sighted.

In Budenholzer we Trust!!!

Two interesting comments/factoids from ESPN's coverage of the D Ferry buyout saga.

The controlling majority, led by Bruce Levenson, and the ownership group's New York-based partners voted in favor of the buyout, which will pay Ferry more than the remaining balance on the final three years of his six-year contract with the Hawks, according to league sources.

The franchise's Atlanta-based partnership voted against the buyout deal, according to sources.

As one general manager said last March, an aphorism that was repeated almost verbatim by another GM two weeks later, "Danny isn't in exile because he's a racist. Danny's in exile because he's an a--h---." This sentiment conforms to the general perception, even by many in the game who think highly of his abilities, that Ferry has far too much self-regard relative to personal accomplishment.

DF didn't make many friends in the organization during his tenure. His treatment of Arthur Triche and especially Larry Drew at the end was pretty deplorable.

But the Gearons' behavior was equally classless. All the way to the end.

I have spoken to Arthur since his departure from the Hawks: He specifically told me he was not happy with how the bald-headed GM treated him and forced him out.
All this time I was thinking Rick Sund was the guy who forced Triche out the door.

Triche put much of his life into this franchise and was shoved out the door IMO.

Ferry was GM of the year IMO for simply moving Joe and Marvin out of here without a drop off. I think he failed in the Josh and Al replacement departments though. A lot of good things have happened here since Ferry's arrival, and I still think more good things are to come based on the philosophy of the coaching staff and now GM Wilcox.

This has never been a one person show, and it won't be that going forward. We now need to build on our successes and make a splash that makes us a title contender.

18 years ago when e-mail was just becoming prominent and I was out-of-state at college struggling to find anyone who cared the least bit about Atlanta Hawks basketball, I would email the Hawks PR Dept with draft and trade ideas. Every single e-mail (less than a dozen over the years) was responded to directly by Arthur Triche. He would graciously thank me for being such an impassioned fan, then very politely explain why my ideas were wholly impossible due to salary cap rules, contract limitations, NBA labor regulations.

At 18/19 years old, I was just amazed that someone actually took the time to read/respond to my electronic mail messages.

I have been a big fan of his since the late 1990s and absolutely wish him the best.

ESPN did an on-camera sit-down with D Ferry after the buyout was agreed to.

Hard to watch and not feel for the guy. Apparently, the independent investigation cleared Ferry of additional wrong-doing way back in September before the scandal even went public. Though the findings are just NOW being made public.

He does take responsibility for the lapse in judgment, several times. Always a good thing.

He seems really contrite. Said he considered quitting but was talked out of it by a number of individuals. Said he considered coming back mid-season, but did not to avoid causing a stir.

All that said, he had to go. With the team being sold and the fan support and the great on court season, bringing him back simply would have been a bad business decision. His treatment of Art Triche and even Larry Drew (both African-American) was less than what either guy deserved.

But DF will undoubtedly be back in the league within a year or two. And he got a fat buyout, so it's not as if his kids are suddenly destitute.

Yeah I heard somewhere that Ferry insisted on the letter and investigation publicly clearing him as part of his buyout

The way the media and the public work, as soon as that info was leaked at the get go he was dead in the water. People made up their minds that he said it because the audio said so, not knowing the back story. While when the report was released he should have been good to go, people had already made up their minds out him.

Think if you had a player wanting to come here and he said no because "ferry said that stuff that one time". Even though the info says otherwise, it's all about perception.

Read today that Ferry is coming after Baze in FA.

Wouldn't surprise me if he tried to woo Horford also.

That would be fortunate for the Hawks if someone could talk Horford into leaving.
