What the what now? If the number of seats is decreasing...I think we can except ticket prices to increase sooner than later. Especially with all the new amenities being added.

The renovations of Philips Arena will result in a reduction of about 2,350 seats, Hawks CEO Steve Koonin said recently.

During his weekly appearance on 92.9 The Game last week, Koonin said of the seating capacity “the building is down to 15,700 and that is because the suite wall is gone.”

The last three seasons, 2014-2017, the listed basketball capacity for Philips Arena was 18,047. It was listed as 18,118 in 2013-14 and 18,238 in 2012-13.

The $192.5 million remaking of the 18-year-old arena will be spread over two Hawks off-seasons, ultimately resulting in an array of new amenities, improved basketball sight-lines, connected concourses and, perhaps most notably, removal of the wall of suites on one side of the building.

“the building is down to 15,700 and that is because the suite wall is gone.”

That's a load of crap. They chopped off about 10 rows of the lower 300 level all the way around. Now I'm 100% in support of doing that because it makes the 200 level actually usable when it was useless before. But the flip side is that you took away the best affordable seats. You know the ones closest to the action. Again I don't care because I'd rather pay the extra than sit in steerage upstairs with crappy concessions and certain death waiting on the one escalator in the event of an emergency. But to say the suite wall is all they eliminated is a flat lie.

The Omni was perfection from a fan perspective for me. I wish they would have just remodeled it. One concourse. You go up to your seats or down to your seats. Easy in and out. Comfortable seats. And if you were sitting in the best seats in the upper level you basically walked up the stairs and you were there. Not 2 escalators and then a repel down to your seats like in Philips.

@macd-gm. I can attest to sitting on the 300 level. The nubbby said never again, felt like he was going to fall over walking down to the front row of seats (doesn't help that he's e'hem scared of heights.

The 200 level sucked. Sat in the last row once, thought I'd pass out from from heat stroke, then the TV Monitors under there shows the reverse image of the action, very twighlight zoney.

200 level was like that hatch in Lost with those flickering tvs. Worst design ever.

No lie, we went to a thrashers game and sat in the 300 section row A when my wife was pregnant. She went into labor that night after having to climb Mount Philipmanjaro to get to the exit.

 I think it's a Hawks thing and not a Philips thing. IIRC they had a clock thing while playing at the CageyOne's alma mater.

They need a sponsor that's good with electronics.

No Longer Philips? Hawks confirm that Philips Arena will get a new name
The Atlanta Hawks have confirmed that reports that Philips, which owns the naming rights for the team’s downtown arena, will not renew the deal after it expires in June 2019.

That means that Philips Arena, which is undergoing a $193 million renovation, will soon have a new name.

Reports that Philips, a consumer electronics technology firm, would not renew the deal were published by Venues Today.

Who will miss the BR40 ads - that basement :o .

Philps lasted 20 years.

oh man BR40 and don't forget that face lawn mower they are hawking this season.

With Philips gone who will provide the electronic expertise to repair the scoreboard at every home game?

So what is the new name?
Coca-Cola Arena?
Amazon Arena?
ShareCare Arena?
Arby's Arena?

Return to Atlanta Hawks
