He is a good passer and defender coming from a similar system.

Spurs fan here.

Splitter is a perfect fit with the Hawks, tbh. You'll get frustrated with his soft finishing at the rim, at times, but his only fatal flaw is his tendency to get hurt.

Phenomenal 1 on 1 defender, great pick&roll defender, very good passer, great screen-setter and solid offensive pick&roll finisher.

Agreed. From a skill standpoint, from a culture fit, from a positional need. Tiago is a great pickup.

He can perfectly complement Horford or Millsap. Love it.

(Please don't let this be a pre-cursor to us moving Horford in trade!!!)

If we can get a scoring SF, we suddenly have a lineup capable of standing up to anyone in either conference.

Fantastic move!!!

He's not going to give you much offensively, you'll be screaming 'go up strong you ****' at your TV every time he gets ball down low but he's a great passer and an amazing defender. He'll fit right in next to Horford if Milsap leaves and if he stays he'll be a perfect first big off the bench.

That'll be more than enough. He already becomes the best true Center this franchise has seen in over a decade...we're talking the Theo Ratliff/Dikembe Mutombo years.

How is his jump shot?

Splitter doesn't have mid-range jump shot.

just some ocasional floaters from FT line like in that video.

Pretty meh. He can hit that little 10 foot baseline jumper but that about all he's capable of.

Doesn't shoot jump shots, although I wouldn't be surprised if he works on it more with the Hawks.

His offense is mostly floaters and crafty layups.

Good fit for sure, as he can allow Horford to play his natural position.

Splitter in the Spurs did not have the role that deserved to have, he is able to score more than he had been doing in SA. Playing in Atlanta will be better for him.

Pop was actually going to him in the post more often the past 2 years against mismatches. He's definitely capable of exploiting smaller players inside, he did it often with the Spurs, but the opportunities weren't there.

I've heard both these sentiments in the past about Splitter. Hope you guys are correct.

I'm content with having him for one year and seeing how he does.
A fresh star could be good for him and one where his role is much bigger.

we have him for two years at around ~ 8 M per, right? Seems reasonable.

$8.5 mil a year and he's a legit 7 footer who can play, the way some big men are getting paid that's a bargain.

Yeah, as long as he remains relatively healthy, that's a bargain for sure. I watched him in their 2013 and 2014 finals runs and he was a huge part of defending Dirk and Aldridge, not to mention his beautiful ball movement. Most excited about the size he brings.

Has anybody heard what we gave up for him?

This is a great win-win trade between the Spurs and Spurs East, he's a great fit for you guys and as mentioned he really did show off his ability to guard dudes like Dirk and Aldridge (amusingly the guy he's being traded to clear space for). Dude can be pretty nimble for a big man and is a good defender and rim protector. The key, often with big men, is keeping him healthy.
These might be enjoyable/enlightening reads for Hawks fans
