Dennis just demanded to be starting PG by next season

...or else.

Dennis Schröder‘s rookie scale contract runs through 2016/17, and he likes playing in Atlanta, but he tells Sport Bild magazine that he wants to start and will look elsewhere if the Hawks don’t give him an opportunity, as Sport1.de relays (hat tip to Sportando’s Emiliano Carchia, and special thanks to Alan Maimon for the translation). “My goal is the starting job,” Schöder said. “If there’s no progress next season, then I’ll have to talk to my people and explore other possibilities.

We should have seen this coming.

  • Being placed on the cover of Germany NBA Live (or whatever it's called these days.)
  • Calling out the coach of the German National team publicly after a close game.

Oh, boy.

I'm losing patience with the young man. I'd hoped to see more maturity in year 3. Instead, his ego seems to be swelling.

Though he is right, at this point he is the right caliber to be a starting PG for a dozen teams in the league...this ain't the way to go about it.

ehhhh i mean what did you want him to say "Im cool being the backup forever." ?

Backups ALWAYS want to be starters. Way it goes. I dont think its that alarming. Language barrier, people say things like that.

Also, hes under contract, he cant go anywhere for like ..........ever.

Next year we have a team option on him at 2.5 million (which we will pick up), and the 17/18 season he enters QO, you really think any team is going to offer him mega bucks ?

Not worried right now, because he's under contract. He'll end up becoming the starter by the team he hits (restricted) free agency.

This story is slowly making its way around the interwebs.

NBC Sports's take on it:

If someone values Schröder as a starter, that team might offer enough in a trade to sway Atlanta, which sees Schröder as a backup. Or if Schröder really progresses, maybe the Hawks would trade Teague to elevate Schröder.

Schröder would start on just a few teams in the league right now. He needs to increase that number, because Atlanta holds significant leverage over him. The more teams that would trade for him, the better chance he has of escaping Teague’s shadow.

Agreed, we hold all the cards.

I suppose this was natural. I'm mostly disappointed this made its way into the media. A year ago DS was 3rd on the depth chart behind Shelvin friggin' Mack.

Now he want's to be a starter or be moved... :nonono:

Trying to remember just how silly, arrogant and inexperienced 22 year olds tend to be.

But when combined with his behavior (and play?) with the German Team this summer...he seems to be getting too big for his britches.

Continuity is stressed by CMB, I dont see either leaving unless someone offers something SIGNIFICANT. No one is offering anything significant for a backup PG with a "high ceiling".

the only way anything happens IMO is if Teague got hurt and DS starts and goes off ala something like Reggie Jackson had happen

And even then, outside of a high draft pick, no player is realistically going to match his production at his pay unless they are on a rookie contract themselves. Just pointless drama because he isn't going anywhere until next offseason at the earliest.

I was really anxious to hear your thoughts in particular on this story.

Are there any other players in his similar situation worth us looking at?

Even if we needed to involve a third team or other assets...

Perhaps:

Willie Cauley Stein?
Leonard Meyers?
Jabari Parker?
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope?
Gorgui Dieng?
Nikola Mirotic?
Rodney Hood?
Dante Exum?
Dion Waiters?

Just curious - how do you guys value him against Teague? Do you like him better or worse as a long term option at PG?

It's mixed.

I think he is a 1-4 point guard with poor playmaking skills that might find his niche as a change of pace guard or starter in he right system. I don't think he will ever be as Teague personally.

Some think he has superstar potential and should be the starter now even if it makes our team worse in the short term.

Basically he is young so opinions on him is going to swing wildly.

I think he only way you are getting value for Schroder is if you package him with Horford. No one else on the team is movable with enough salary to get back a solid player. That said....dion waiters is probably the only player you could get for Schroder on that list...and...well...no.

Having Parker on that list is just crazy.

Bucks fans are already plotting ways to get Schroeder. Wondering what it takes to acquire him.

I don't follow. because his value is too low for DS?

Or his value is too great?

If Jabari's stock is that low due to injury (which hopefully it is), then we simply demand more value in return. That's how trade's work...

He is right, I think he has an extremely good chance to become a better player than Teague, and he knows this. But for that to happen, they have to make a decision.

Jabari Parker is a STARTER and COULD be a generational talent like Wiggins. No one is giving you the #2 pick in the draft for the #15(?) pick in the draft 2 years ago and a backup PG.

I also think PF/SF is valued more than PG play.

Again, what could you get for DS? Nothing better than what he already is, or what we already have. We will potentially already have 3 project wings on our roster in THJ/Holiday/Patterson.

DS isnt getting you anything remotely better than them. And i believe we are ALL IN on Al Horford as the cornerstone of this franchise going forward.

The Bucks fans hammered that point home very clearly, they value Jabari and Giannis light years more than anything DS could bring them. Fair enough.

But you honestly think DS is no more valuable than undrafted free agents and a late 2nd round draftee who's never actually played a game?

Seriously?

Just, wow...

Forget value.

DS makes 2 million a year. So, I assume we would be looking to upgrade a wing position, of which we already have:
Baze
Thabo
Korver
THJ
Holiday
Patterson

Ill ask you again, who is trading FOR DS and giving you BETTER options that what I just listed?

YES DS value is probably equal to another 2million dollar a year player which is what we ALREADY HAVE. Hes not worth Jabari Parker, hes not worth Dieng, hes not worth Mirotic. Seriously? thats more a WOW to me that you even think thats close to the same "value".

Those guys are 10 times the player DS is (maybe not Dieng but he has size).
