Kirk is back!

Post#1 » by td00 » Thu Feb 18, 2016 8:15 pm

From the days of Bibby, we turn to experience again.

Now we need a big man in reserve for the playoffs.

Well..nothing exciting for us at the deadline but I guess this means that Jamaal got his vet PG to mentor Dennis

I've been begging for a veteran PG option to mentor Dennis (and Teague) over the years. This is a solid pickup. Having three young players at a single position never made much sense.

Hinrich's contribution on the floor and in the locker room should be a positive one...even if it is limited.

You're the first person I thought about after hearing about the trade, I do recall you calling for a vet PG to mentor Dennis for some time now.

Who knows, maybe he can teach Dennis a proper defensive technique which will really make him dangerous. Schroder tries to be a tenacious on-ball defender but it seems like he just lacks some technique.

Well, we've had vet PGs before, but they really didn't espouse defense. Hinrich will be a good influence.

Now we've got Teague who IMO is Top 10 in the NBA, so Dennis has had a vet showing him how to earn minutes. Of all people, Teague is a terrific example of being dedicated and waiting his turn, which only took what, 3 years?

We're in very good shape at PG. I like our depth here no matter what happens.

I'd like to believe that Chicago allowed Hinrich to decide which team he gets dealt to, but I could be wrong, and I do expect him to sign back with Chicago this off-season. It seems like the cycle continues to repeat it's self.
Anyways, it's nice to have him back for the rest of the season, and for the postseason.

I think Budz is going to use Kirk as a SG.

Its an okay trade because we replace Mack with a better 3pt shooter. Kirk is currently shooting .420 from three, and the Hawks 3pt shooting has been way down this year.

But i don't expect much from the Kirk. Kirk at best will give the same as Brent Barry did for the Spurs when Brent was 35yr old.

SO.............

If THJ is hurt, and cant go, does the Hinrich trade look REALLY bad considering we gave up Holiday to get him? Holiday had 29 points in his last game.

THJ has been apretty good off the bench, and Im not saying Holiday was some elite talent, but I think Id rather have him than Patterson backing up THJ?

What is Hinrich doing besides keeping the bench warm?

Meh. in a tight playoff game down the stretch, I'd much rather have 12 year veteran Kirk Hinrich playing important minutes and doing all the little things than I would turning to Justin Holliday.

Hell...I'm not even convinced Bud would actually play Justin Holliday in a close playoff game.

J Holliday putting up big points against the 76ers...in what's essentially an exhibition game, doesn't exactly mean much.

Hinrich is 6'4" and has played almost half his minutes at SG since the day he was drafted.

Kirk is still a great defender(which honestly I don't even understand how its happening anymore) and a solid backup point guard in case Dennis goes all "last years playoffs" on us. I like that he is there.
