Hawks favorites to sign Kris Humphries

Kris Humphries is in “advanced talks” with the Suns on a possible buyout, tweets Michael Scotto of Sheridan Hoops. He cites the Hawks as the favorites to land Humphries if the deal goes through.

Humphries was sent from Washington to Phoenix in a trade at the deadline that brought Markieff Morris to the Wizards. Since the deal, Humphries has played four games for the Suns, averaging 7.3 points and 8.0 rebounds. He is making $4.6MM this season and in 2016/17, so it’s uncertain how much money he would have to give up in the buyout.

The Hawks have a roster spot open, so no corresponding move would be needed to sign Humphries. If the deal happens, Atlanta would be his seventh team in a 12-year NBA career.

I really like this. Fearing that we'd strike out on every buy-out candidate and be stuck signing some D-Leaguer who'd never play, it's refreshing to see us called "favorites" for someone's services.

Humphries is a very good rebounder, and will help us in that department. I also prefer his post defense to Muscala's. This is the kind of big that could be very beneficial to us come playoff time.

Discuss.

May as well, we have enough "floor spreaders" now get a board crasher.

Yeah. Would be nice to not have players always getting career highs in rebounds everytime they play against the Hawks. Please.

He was a walking double double not too long ago. Good low key move.

Feels good knowing we grabbed an actual rebounding big. Defeinitely gives us a boost off the bench on the defensive end over Moose

Q and A with Kris Humphries

C-Viv: One of the things the Hawks said they liked was that you can now stretch the floor to the 3-point line. What when into adding that to your game?

Kris: Everyone is doing it right? You have to adjust your game. That is the way offenses are going. I decided to put it in.

C-Viv: I’m curious about picking up a new offense this late in the season. It’s a lot of read and react. How do you expect that to go?

Kris: You look at most of their principles. Boston has run a lot of the same kind of actions. A lot of this is more reads and moving the ball, screening away, getting a two-man game on one side, picks, pops, rolls, spreading the floor with the 4-man and the 5-man. It’s something I’ve been involved in so it should work out. I’ve played in this kind of system before.

C-Viv: In this system, when they are running the floor, the 4 and the 5 are pretty much the same. Is that something you are comfortable with if you have to play some 5?

Kris: Yeah. I’ve played 5. I’ve played 4. I can guard both. I’m not really worried about that.

C-Viv: How much did you know about the Hawks? Did you know anyone?

Kris: You know some guys. (Points to Mike Muscala). He’s actually from Minnesota. I’m from Minnesota. You know some guys. Basketball is basketball. I’ve played against some of these guys for a long time.
