Harrison Barnes

Post#1 » by atlantabbq99 » Sat May 14, 2016 7:16 am

I know the Hawks are going to go after Kevin Durant. The Hawks owe it to the fans to go after Durant, but what ever the outcome is, the next question has to be, do the Hawks offer Barnes a max contract?

The only way Barnes is leaving a dynasty like the GSW is for a max contract. Should the Hawks go after Harrison Barnes? Should the Hawks offer Harrison Barnes max?

All reports indicate that Budz is loyal to a fault and will resign Al, Teague, Sap, Baz, and Korver. The SG/SF spot is the only position the Hawks could really improve on.

I would go after Batum and Parsons before I went after Barnes. Barnes has been garbage in the playoffs and really fell off a cliff for the last half of the regular season. There is a reason why there is like a 7 page thread on the warriors board that says "DO NOT SIGN HARRISON BARNES". Literally every poster in that thread is in favor of letting him walk and not bringing him back. Yea, no thanks.

Batum is staying in Charlotte from the looks of things.
"why wouldn’t he meet with other teams? I can imagine a lot of teams will be interested. Steve Kyler: Was told his camp knows Knicks and Raptors would offer max deal. Knows whats out there wants to stay in Charlotte. – via Twitter stevekylerNBA"

Chandler Parson's and his injury is worrisome, he had microfracture surgery and was injured again.

Barnes is a RFA so there are no guarantees with that.

My concern with pursuing Kevin Durant is what it means for our hopes to sign other free agents and our own.
Kevin Durant may drag free agency out for awhile and that won't be good for us at all.

Barnes is going to be a popular one for sure. Is he really worth a max contract?
If LA offers the max, which has been rumored, I expect them to lead most teams on his list.

I just don't know why people are acting as if Barnes hasn't killed his whole hype from high school by this point yet. Much of the same flaws that he demonstrated through two lackluster seasons at UNC are still true now. He simply doesn't have the game nor the mentality to be a top option on a team. He certainly won't give a damn about leaving Golden State, most young guys in his position are more concerned with making the most amount of money or getting the most opportunity, GS certainly won't entertain a 5th option on a max and he won't want to remain a 5th option for anything less than a max. let some young dumb team or some desperate vet team make that mistake, not the Hawks.

I'm not sure. But they did ask the same question about Kawhi, Parsons, and Wesley Matthews a few years ago. Only Kawhi has lived up to his max contract. Even alot of Hawks fans didn't want to offer Kawhi a max contract.

Its not fair to say that Barnes will be the next Kawhi or Harden, but i think it is reasonable to say that Barnes could be a rich man's DeMarre Carroll, or 17ppg, .400 three point shooting SF, with defense good enough to guard Lebron... so is that worth max?

Barnes is starting to grow on me a little bit more. At first, the idea of going after him seemed like a bad move, but the more actual games I go back and watch, the more I see the risk of signing him may be worth.

Looking mostly at his strengths, he's athletic, great shooter with a smooth shot from mid-range and from beyond the arc, has the ability to knockdown the turn around jumper, able to get creative once he does get near the rim, runs and finishes in transition, a solid cutter from any angle, and pretty solid defender.

His weakness is mostly creating off the dribble, but if you watch some games, he shows flashes of being able to create something off the dribble. Even if he just average at creating off the dribble, he can honestly do everything else on offense. Guys he will remind you of are Danny Granger, Paul Pierce, Allan Houston, or Glen Rice. Glen Rice almost fits him to a T. We could really use a Glen Rice.

Paul George came into the league with a shaky dribble, but he's definitely improved and gotten better at it. Barnes still has plenty of time to get better. I really think this could be a huge gamble that could really pay off big if we look at how well we have improved lesser players.

I dont want him to be the #1 option. And in Atlanta he shouldnt HAVE to be. I like his attributes, he fits the prototypical size, speed, frame I want in a SF. Id be perfectly happy give Bazemores money to him. I like his upside more than Bazemore.

Paying Harrison Barnes a max would be like paying Marvin a max back in '08.

Marvin was a very good player until all the injuries happen. I don't know if Harrison Barnes also has injury issues.

Durant goes to Golden State (my mind just blew up)...

So what does this do now?

Should the Hawks look into Barnes, Iggy, or Shaun Livingston? Could the Hawks still get one of the three?

I think the only need to move Barnes and Bogut, renounce Festus to have enough space. they can keep Livingston.

I don't think they renounce Festus if they have to give away Bogut and get nothing in return. Iggy has a big contract that needs to be dumped, unless Durant is willing to take a Lebron type pay cut?

There it is, Barnes has verbally agreed to a 4/94 deal with Dallas.

WOW Durant did take a pay cut! Only getting 27 million a year. Mike Conley is getting 31 million per yeaar :o

Horford is even getting more, 28.5 million per year. I am shocked at Durant's moves :o

It's unfair to use averages. Conley is getting 5 years with 7.5% raises each year. Durant is getting 2 yrs with 4.5% raises.
Their starting salaries in year 1 will be more than likely identical - 30% of $94 mil

It doesn't change the total. and potential yearly earnings.
