Looking at the future: Derrick Favors

Favors only has one year left on his contract and has zero interest in resigning with Utah. Reports have Favors excited about become an UFA and has been spotted around Atlanta, training hard for the up coming season, so that he can put up big numbers and make his first All Star appearance, in what will be one of his biggest contract years.
Favors has recently had twin with long time girlfriend and Georgia native Shivolli DaSilva and has expressed how important spending time with his family is.
Favors will be one of the top free agents in 2018, and based on his age and production will easily get max offers from numerous NBA teams.
Reports say that Favors is not all that fond with Utah, not only because of its lack of wins and playoff appearances, in addition multiple coaching changes, and history of losing, but also with the drastic slower life style change of Utah, from growing up in Atlanta.
Millsap's contract should be off the books by then, and Atlanta could have the inside track on Favors, as long as they can match any max offers.

Maybe a Milsaps reunion in Utah is on the horizon, while we bring back one of our homegrown talents to the city of Atlanta.

I think most Utah homers are delusional if they think they can extend or resign Favors. If Utah is smart, they would let Dwight put up big number this season and at the trade deadline, i would start shopping Favors around for the best deal they can get. Because a LMA situation will end up happening to the Jazz. But homerism is strong in Utah and they probably think they won't have anything to worry about when Favors elects to explore unrestricted free agency.

That's the first I've heard of this. I must dig deeper. I was sure Favors would resign. Interesting.

This is too funny. He extended with us last time for less than market value because he wants out, lol.

I doubt he comes. Utah should make the playoffs this year and they should offer him the max. I can't see him leaving.

Came here to look at the horford reaction, only to find comments I have never even slightly heard.
Favors has continually spent most of his time in Utah, he enjoys the family oriented state and feels he has found a home in the state. He has been working out in Utah and at p3 with his utah teammates.
I'm curious where this he has 0 interest in returning to the jazz and is excited to test free agency is coming from. Derrick is a reserved guy who likes consistency and isn't a big fan of change. Which could lead to it being plausible he would want to go back home. But the OP post is the very first thing I've ever heard of Favors not being happy in Utah.

Not to mention he still has 2 years left on his deal and the contract has a decent chance to be reworked and extended later this year.

V-103 Interview:
“I didn't expect to stay, no,” Favors says, more than four years after the trade and two years after he signed a four-year contract extension with the Jazz. “Utah was so different, I was so new to it. I didn't expect to stay.
Favors misses home, not unusual for Atlanta players to say how much they miss the city.
“But as the years have gone on, I've grown to love it. I got used to it. I just started feeling comfortable,” he says. “I like how calm and chill it is in Utah."
Favors makes nice and goes politically correct. I don't blame him, you have to say that stuff to the media as to not create a storm since now you're a public figure.
"Utah, it's a good thing and it's a bad thing. The bad part is, maybe after a big game you want to go out and hang out or whatever, and there's really not too many spots like that in Utah. Down here, you could go anywhere. Out in Utah, it's chill, laid-back. There's not a lot of rah-rah stuff going on. You can focus on your job, your career, whatever else you have going on.”

... but Favors goes back to saying how much he misses Atlanta and the life style and his family, but he is making the best of the situation, and why not, you are currently getting paid millions of dollars by an organization. There is enough here that Jazz fans should feel uncomfortable that Favor will do a LMA move.
My friend interns at V-103 and he is the one who brought it up to me when we were talking about basketball.

His wife is also a UGA girl.

Is it too early to start thinking about future, younger replacements at PF to pair with Dwight?
Does Favors game seem like it could mesh well with D12?
Is he more talented and should be pursued at all costs?
Does Utah's ascent to playoff contender make it less likely Favors considers leaving that Jazz squad?

I think after the KD thing guys should really stop reading into comments by players to try to figure out their next move in life. If Utah offers him that max extension under the new CBA it's a big chance he stays. Let a dude become an UFA anything can happen.

I wouldn't say he has zero interest in resigning with Utah, but he still has very strong ties to Atlanta. This is an older article, but sums it up pretty well.

Zach Lowe on his podcast predicts there's no way Utah maxes out Derrick Favors to keep him. He indicates concerns within the UTAH front office on how Favors would mesh long term with Rudy Gobert.
47 Minute MarkThis does bring about questions regarding how Favors could mesh with Dwight long term, since D12 and Gobert have similar offensive limitations.

The possibility of Favors switching teams for next years has officially gotten into the 51% range.
After being pulled as a starter by the Jazz coaching staff, relationship between Favors and the organization has grown more dim. Favors has stated to the AJC "I have to prepare myself this offseason to have a great year, whatever city I'm in."
Favors is defiantly somebody i would be willing to trade draft pick for. Not only is he talented and fills a need for the Hawks at PF, but at age 25, he would be a great long term piece to pair up with Schroder who is 24yr old, and Prince who is 23yr old.

Does seem like a legit target. He'll be cheaper than Millsap, and his prime will coincide with Dennis'.

I won't be shocked if Favors decides to switch teams.
I just don't know how much his level of play has peaked and how much more he can progress.

That window for Favors becoming the next Amare is getting smaller, he could still become a top shelf PF as maybe another Horace Grant or Antonio McDyess.
All in all, if Favors can put up something around 16/8 on a reasonable contract at age 25, it would be a great pick up.

Would love to get Favors. He was playing like a fringe all-star before this year happened with injuries. Has a solid all around game. can post up, but probably more effective facing up. Solid mid-range jumper. Athletic and long enough to be a lob target. Very mobile. Pretty good defender. Honestly, imo he tends to look Duncan lite. Has the prototypical skill set for the 4 spot. Heck, we've done so well with former Jazz players, that I wouldn't mind having for that reason alone. We've had Sap, KK, DMC, and others I think.

Some pretty strong moves in there. Defense is much better than I assumed as well. Bring the kid home and put him next to another hometown kid.

I don't get the hype on Favors. I'm not saying is not good, but I see lots of people talking like he would be clearly better than Monroe while :
UTA is at -2.3pts NET On/Off court with Favors (+12pts with Gobert, +7.4 with Hayward and +6.8 with Hill)
(the previous year, Favors was at +1.1 and Gobert +3.9)
MIL is at +7pts with Monroe (best of his team)
and Monroe is only 1 year older... but it's like Favors should be paid more than a supposed overpaid Monroe
For what it's worth, Monroe has a PER of 21.23 and Favors 15.88
