I hope College Park and the surrounding areas support the team.
I think it's a good thing to have in that area and I look forward to attending some games.

Gatorade, apparently. This is a major development for the developmental league:
Biz JournalGatorade’s NBA D-League deal seen as boon for drink company's R&D as much as brand marketing
In a deal that will be assessed more on its research and development indicators than traditional branding, Gatorade is counting on its bold makeover of the NBA D-League to serve as a petri dish for the company’s sports science laboratory.
The sweeping agreement includes title rights that will change the name to the NBA Gatorade League, or G-League, beginning next season and embed the G-League logo into every component of the NBA-owned entity.
AJC SportsHawks in College Park now a ‘G League’ team
- NBA renames its minor league from NBA Development League to NBA G League.
- The Hawks entry will begin play in 2019.
- New name reflects relationship between NBA, Gatorade.

Re: Hawks putting a G-League Team in College Park
Formerly of the Knicks, Longstaff has cut his teeth in the league as a developmental wizard
Longstaff has been with the New York Knicks for the past three seasons and is particularly close with Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis, even flying out to Latvia last year to train with him in the offseason.
Porzingis and other young Knicks Willy Hernangomez, Ron Baker, Chasson Randle, and Mindaugas Kuzminskas all have credited Longstaff with helping them with their game, so he brings a strong history of developing a variety of young players, from future stars to guys barely holding onto NBA jobs. He would be a perfect fit in Erie (and eventually College Park, where the Bayhawks will move in two years) to work with the treasure trove of future draft picks the Hawks possess.
Hope he helps Collins, Diamond and Dorsey take big steps during their likely stints in Erie this season.

This would be an eggcellent hire. I hoped that Budz would bolster the coaching staff/pipeline this offseason. This is a step in that direction.

I just can't get used to the Gatorade League. I'll probably call it the D league for another 2 years. Maybe Doritos will be the sponsor by then.

Re: Hawks putting a G-League Team in College Park
Longstaff worked and forged a strong bond with Porzingis, having spent part of last summer in Latvia working out the second-year forward. But that relationship likely cost Longstaff his job when Porzingis blew off his exit meeting with Phil Jackson and Steve Mills last April.
The Knicks, publicly embarrassed by Porzingis’ actions, indirectly blamed Longstaff according to a source. Moreover, they began creating a narrative that Longstaff was a disloyal employee who was turning Porzingis against the team. That type of rhetoric could potentially hurt a young coach, but the perennial dysfunction at Madison Square Garden worked in Longstaff’s favor.
The Knicks were said to be surprised by the backlash they received from not renewing Longstaff’s contract.
Coach will be in a much better situation here. Hopefully, he builds a similarly strong bond with John Collins.

Been to one. Not a lot going on. More like an advanced summer league game imo. If you've ever been to a minor league baseball game, it's probably on par with that minus being able to watch star prospects. Might be more exciting now that the Hawks have an actual team, and we can now have legit interest in watching.

Re: All about the Erie BayHawks
Jordan Crawford is a 6th round pick in the G League?
Good grief. Talk about the fringes of pro basketball.
At what point does a man just accept that his best days are behind him and pursue a new avenue/career/life direction?
6TH rounder....that's humbling, right there.

Last I checked both Crawford and Killpatrick are on the Pel's and Nets respectively. The draft just secures their GLeague "rights" should they be waived from their pro squads and not find gainful employement anywhere else.

Re: All about the Erie BayHawks
Some clarification on the status of the BayHawks as an expansion franchise:
Hoops RumorsThe G League’s new teams this year are affiliates for the Hawks (Erie BayHawks), Grizzlies (Memphis Hustle), Bucks (Wisconsin Herd), and Clippers (Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario).
The Erie BayHawks have been in the G League for years but are technically an expansion team since the old iteration of the BayHawks was purchased by the Magic and moved to Lakeland, Florida — the Lakeland Magic will retain returning rights for former BayHawks players.
The players added today by the G League’s four expansion teams won’t necessarily play for them this season — in fact, it’s not all that common for expansion draftees to suit up for their new clubs. Many of those players will try to catch on with an NBA team or will end up playing overseas, if they’re not already on an NBA or international roster. Still, the expansion draft gives the G League’s new teams some assets as they start to build their rosters for the coming season.
