Hardaway vs Hood vs Middleton

I have high hopes for Hardaway in the next few years. I don't think he will be an all star but I do think after a few more years in the system he could be an above average starter or a poor man's Manu.
In regards to the NBAs young wing players is Hardaway already up there with Middleton and Hood?

No he isn't. He's inconsistent. He could be ATL's best 6th man since Crawford left though.

Yeah, the inconsistency is definitely an issue. He's closing the gap on Hood. But, he's still clearly behind both of the aforementioned wings.
If he manages to keep his scoring avg 12+ ppg, I really think Brooklyn or some other struggling team is gonna massively overpay him next summer.

I'm encouraged by Tim's development. If Moose's eruption so far this season is any indication, there is certainly hope that THjr can be better. He has a skillset worth developing - he can put the ball on the floor and drive to the paint, decent pull-up midrange shot, an inconsistent 3 point shot (at times he seems off balance) - hopefully our shooting coaches can tweak his form so he gets better.
And his defense isn't half bad after coming from NYK as a guy with a non-existent defense.

Really? I haven't really followed the Jazz this year.
Yeah definitely. If Crabbe can get 18 mil a year, Hardaway definitely going to get that. Hawks going to have to make a decision between him and Korver.

And the fact we have Bembry and Cordinier in the pipeline at SG has to be accounted for as well. I'm thinking another low cost defensive wing is a more likely option. Especially since we'll need to pay Millsap more or outright replace him next summer as well.

I think Bremby and Cordinier are raw. They'll definitely be in D League for a while. Hawks need to keep guys like Hardaway to market towards potential FAs.

The good thing is having Bird Rights to all our free agents (except Hump) is important. The question will always remain, are the owners willing to exceed the cap to resign them if they choose.

A bird in hand is worth two in the bush. I doubt that after Ressler's comments and the capitol he's spreading on periphery expenses (training facility, remodeling Phillips, DLeague) that he skimps on the main product by refusing to exceed the cap. Then BudCox clearly saw more in Hardaway than even most on this board and across the NBA to balk at retaining him simply because another team(s) show interest. They can't possibly be banking on Thabo and Kyle to play forever to chose them rather than building up and retaining the stable of their much younger wing rotation.

100% agree on this. Which is likely why the front office has spent 5 draft picks in two years on acquiring SFs and SGs. Hell, we traded Teague away and got back a young wing player in return. And signed Bazemore to one of the highest money contracts in franchise history.
We've done more to address SF/SG since 2015 than any other position. And now we have a surplus.

I don't see it as a surplus. Until one of them turns into a bonafide superstar, I think we need as many quality wings with varying skill sets as possible.

OK??
Is it not clear. We have no LeBron or Durant where a piddling backup would be ok. Absent that a group of quality starters and bench players is needed.

I'd have to see their cap holds. Bringing that whole team back shouldn't be an option.

I'm not advocating bringing back the whole team. I'm saying it wont be a DMC vs Millsap situation where we have to pick one of 2 players because of not having bird rights.

Buds is now using Hardaway the same way Pops uses Manu on the Spurs. He is now the Hawks sixth man and will be getting steady minutes from here on out. Hardaway with his big numbers is getting a lot of respect from Budz

Got ya. I don't think this ATL regime will ever pay anybody the full max. I don't think Millsap is loyal. Seems like the type to go to the team with the biggest offer.

I don;t care about the 'Loyal' tag. Teams are not either (see trade rumors of Paul during FAcy). Players and teams do what's best for them and I fault neither.
