What would Bud trade Sap for?

Raps just gave a late first and Ross, a sith man/starter for Ibaka. Thinking is that they would have added their other late first or Poeltl plus Sullinger (exp) to that to get the preferred Sap.
Why isn't Ross and 2 mid twenties firsts enough? I'd have taken the better first and Poeltl (#9 pick last year). Bud keeps saying if he gets the right deal.... what does he expect to get?
I think Bud is making a big mistake.

He simply doesn't want to help a rival. ORL is not sure to make the playoffs, it's different.
And even if he was listening last summer, don't forget that trading Millsap to TOR last summer was helping them, but also bringing back Horford here.
This season, Horford won't come back in any Millsap trade. If you trade Millsap to TOR, and they succeed to re-sign him and Lowry, you need to beat CLE and TOR in the next seasons.
At this moment, and even with Ibaka, TOR is not on the same level than CLE... who are not so much winning since they got Korver...
But I agree that it's a win now strategy, and not a long term view.
What I don't get is if they are in a win now strategy, why do they keep Splitter on the roster ? He should be the one traded first with filler to add something to this team

if this is true, why the korver trade? It was clear our entire offseason moves was solely focused on trying to be more competitive against Cleveland then you trade korver to him to Cleveland to help them patch a weakness with the JR injury. If they trying to win now that late pick shouldn't be worth nothing to them the focus should be on adding talent.
Btw so far in the month of February Korver is averaging 14 points and is shooting 61% from 3! and the cavs are 6-1.
its becoming more clear that the strategy isn't to win now or to rebuild. Its to maintain status quo and to keep operations running smoothly. Replace 1 middling cog with another middling cog and maintain with no progression. Basically running like a manufacturing plant instead of trying to innovate. Since Millsap is too big of a cog they are not going to move him and do everything they can to sign unless they can find another cog to replace him. They were ready to send him packing the moment AL resigned.

IMO, I'm not interested in moving Sap because I want to see us compete for a title. He is that type of player that makes us better.
Millsap is a Top 5 PF in this league, so that in itself tells you you have to keep him to help get us there. I hate to rebuild now as its tough to get to contending status. Sap,DH & DS need more help at the 3/4 slots. I'm sure Bud is counting on our 2 first rounders to step up very soon. If that happens, we have a very good top 7. Thabo's defense is what we need to have come out of TP & DB.
The main hole other than that is a backup PG. Is there one on today's market that could help us this stretch run?

Having a player of Paul Millsap caliber making the kind of money he will be receiving in the offseason wont help you become a title contender unless you have players on the team who are better than him and are still on their rookie scale contract or are severely underpaid.
Doubling down on Millsap actually IMO will make you less of a contender because you are further cementing our ceiling which isn't close to a title contender.

Because Korver was the player with the lowest impact on the roster. Sure he still was spreading the floor, but it was not working, they were bad on defense, more than what he brought on offense.
And does he have a positive impact for CLE since the trade ? No, he's in negative, and CLE has lost lots of games since the trade.
I'm still amazed that all the media talked about this trade like a signal that ATL was sure to rebuild because they traded Korver. The previous season, it would have been different, but this season, how trading your lowest impact player can make a signal that you're sure to rebuild ?

Agree, I don't think we've taken a downturn since Korver was moved. Did we get anything for that move? We got a backup in Dunleavy whose defense is as good as Korver, and we get a draft pick that could be added to a future deal.
Another deal should happen, because our backcourt depth is not sufficient for a playoff run. We lost Teague and haven't replaced him yet.
As far as moving Sap, IMO we're not going to get enough value for an expiring opt-out contract. He likes it here as he's stated, so I'm comfortable with him being our leader. We just need to add to the arsenal with a guy who is a closer and an end of game option.
I always said the 4 was the easiest position to replace, but we really don't have a dominant player at the other slots, so our 4 is critical as a Top 5 in the league.

Yeah, let's sign Sap to a huge deal, bring in 2 players better than him and we're contenders, which won't happen, what will happen is that we watch the Hawks continue to be a weak playoff team for another year or two, while DH and Sap, 2 of our 3 best players, become expensive and old.
Anyone that thinks the Hawks are anywhere close to contenders this year might want to stop playing GM. Oupps, didn't mean to talk about Bud that way
