Good move seeing as how we're keeping Brooklyn's 2nd rounder. Ilyasova will bolster the bench for the stretch run. He averages 14.8 ppg and 5.9 rpg with 36% 3 point shooting on 5.6 attempts per game.

Sounds like the GSW 2nd rounder upcoming this year.

Also, CViv of AJC says Hawks not done dealing:

Agree with you guys, that's a good trade. Our bench with Hardaway starting has been very unreliable and inconsistent. Splitter was just one of these trades that could've been great but oh well, we tried. Now it's time to get rid of M. Scott, Dunleavy, Muscala or Humphries and try to get a back up PG.

Let's strengthen the 1 with Mario Chalmers and the 2 with a veteran shooter.

We're talking about getting past BOS and CLE. Let's go all in!

It's a solid move. It shores up a couple of deficiencies. But doesn't move the needle too much. I give this trade a grade of:

:blank: :droop: :guitar:

It'll be interesting to see which team benefits more from their new PF: Hawks with Ilyasova or Raptors with Ibaka. (Fun fact, they were traded for each other less than a year ago.) This playoff matchup between us and them seems the most likely based on current standings. (And might be the best we can hope for.)

REALGM has a good breakdown of the trade:

The Atlanta Hawks had one hole in their rotation and that was for another big off the bench. Splitter has played in just 36 games for the Hawks, this isn’t much for the Hawks to give up to get another big man who can help them.

Ilyasova should go a long way to solving the issue of a consistent backup big.

He’s a career 36.7% shooter from the behind the arc. He’s also a very solid rebounder.

Both Ilyasova and Splitter were expiring contracts this year and will hit free agency.

Grade for Atlanta: B

Rather go Huertas. He's not great but he will fit well and is gotta be better than post lebron/injury chalmers right?

Ersan is only going to be succesfull if a pre designed set is in play. He was succesfull in milwaukee because Skiles ran very rigid set plays and emphasized very much on defense. He also was very succesfull playing together with a genius like Embiid but other experiences were heartbreaking. He is a very bad catch&shoot player. People tend to think he is some mini-Korver looking at his stats but he's like the negative of him. He defends with taken charges(1st in league for many seasons) and shoots well if he has like a second to set up his body, other times he will make you puke with his bad decision making and horrible catch&shoot percentage.

What are our thoughts on the Ilyasova acquisition thus far?

The new Grantland gives us a very modest grade:

Ersan Ilyasova on the Hawks

Grade: C

It was just two seasons ago the Hawks seemed like Spurs East...Since then, the Hawks have been blindfolded, throwing darts, hoping something lands.

No acquisition signifies the unfocused approach more than the addition of stretch forward Ersan Ilyasova. He has actually been solid for the Hawks, hitting 44.4 percent of his 3s, and the team has its best offensive rating (111.5) when he’s on the floor.

But the Hawks are 2–5 since the deadline and could quickly find themselves outside the playoffs if this decline continues.

Definite upgrade over Muscala - tougher all around.
He's doing what he's supposed to - it's the rest of the players that have been do-do.
