A look at Rudy Gay as the Hawks' starting PF

Greg Monroe would be the obvious plan B for the Hawks if Millsap leaves, but Rudy Gay could also be looked at to fill a possible Millsap departure.
Rudy is listed as a SF but because of personnel problems and small ball, he has played alot of minutes as a PF with Omri Casspi, and Belinelli playing SF. He has also was the primary PF for Coach K on Team USA ( http://www.nba.com/kings/blog/rudy-ready-represent-usa/ )
Rudy has the offensive punch to replace Millsap's production. He has the 3pt range that Budz likes in his PF. He also has the speed and length that fits well with Budz system or euro-ball
On defense, he should be able to do well with Dwight backing him up. And i only see mismatch problems for Rudy when it comes to Griffin and Davis, but Millsap also problems with those two anyway.
Monroe's passing ability would be interesting to see in Budz system, but on the other hand, Monroe had a hard time playing PF next to Drummond, so he also might struggle to play along side Dwight. The major criticism Detroit fans had with Monroe, is that they said Monroe is a center and not a PF, and that is why he struggles. Rudy's speed, length, shooting, and ability to create would also be interesting to watch in Budz system.
I think Rudy could be a poor man's Carmelo with the Hawks. Carmelo was a SF in Denver, but then transitioned to PF with New York with no loss in efficiency, and I think Rudy can do the same.
But with that said, for me, it all comes down to contract. Between Rudy Gay and Greg Monroe, I would just take the guy with the most reasonable contract.
