Sucks we have to give up that good 2nd rounder and take on an extra year of Plumlee.

True, but you need to pay for a salary dump. Dwight 2 years combined ($46) is more than Plumlee's 3 years ($37.2).

It's not really that much of a salary dump though due to the extra year.
Really hope there is another deal in the works.

I prefer to view the salary as what the savings to the cap is in each year. So that's half of Dwight's straight off. Belinelli can also be moved again.

Re: Dwight Howard traded to Charlotte Hornets
It's halving Dwight's contract in 2018 and saving a shade over 4 million this year. Belinelli potentially makes Hardaway expendable this year meaning depending on what other types of deals and trades Schlenk makes in free agency the Hawks could potentially be sitting on close to 50 million in cap in 2018.

1. Cold blooded
2. Absolutely necessary
There's a decent chance none of these current players are on the team next summer.
That's exciting.
Seriously, poor Dwight. One sub par season at home and he's a vagabond again.

How do the Hawks fans on here feel about the trade? I haven't seen an approve or disapprove yet.

Is something happening behind the scenes here with Dwight that's not being reported? The pick swap is just insulting... on the surface it appears the Hawks got FLEECED on this...

Re: Dwight Howard traded to Charlotte Hornets
The truth is that Howard never fit in Bud's playing style. I don't think he was that bad for us, in a lot of games he was very underutilized in my opinion. He's still a force on the offensive end and on the boards. His Pick and roll defense is a disaster though and he can't stretch the floor or guard most guys who do, with all that being said I wish him the best in Charlotte. Hawks need to rebuild, I hope we find a way to get rid of Bazemore and let Millsap go.
GO HAWKS.

I like dumping Dwight. I don't like giving up 31 and taking on Plumlee.

Re: Dwight Howard traded to Charlotte Hornets
There's no way the Hawks go down 10 spots in a deep draft and Dwight for a useless ass Plumlee with a bad contract + Belinelli. That just makes me mad.
Unless they are tanking hard I can't imagine the Hawks actually want both terrible contracts in Baze and Plumlee. Hope they both go pretty soon. I don't know what they intend to do with Belinelli.

Agreed. It's amazing how many assets from the Joe Johnson trade had to be wasted just to dump contracts.

Just wanted to chime in and give condolences for the brutal assault that ATL fans just endured.

Re: Dwight Howard traded to Charlotte Hornets
I'm neither here or there with this news, just kinda meh. Tired of being a treadmill team, 1st or 2nd round fodder. Maybe we need to take a couple of step backs to leap forward. Hopefully we can get inventive enough to change my mind as far as the roster they put out. Dwight was dissapointing for me, especially at the end of the year and in the playoffs. He was an eyesore to watch, and then it hit me what Laker and Rockets fans were mouthing about throughout his time in those respective places. All that being said, it needed to be at least
1 season in which he gave it a try with the old home team. I'm glad of that but.........NO, it's not particularly surprising to see him traded. And this Hawks fan for one can see us being all the better for it.

All Dwight is worth is a salary dump?

With how man times he spent crunch time on the bench this was a necessary move. He just didn't fit our offense.
I think Plumlee and Marco will be serviceable pieces if this team is still trying to win now. They seem like better fits in Bud's system.

Re: Dwight Howard traded to Charlotte Hornets
I think the GM and coach have not traded him for basketball reasons, but for attitude reasons.
Plumlee and Belinelli are receiving as much money as DH and yet Plumlee is as bad a fit in today's basketball as DH.
Plumlee cannot shoot, cannot pass, is a bad FT shooter, has no footwork at all... the big difference is that he knows that and he would not be demanding any attention...
With Belinelli we get a guard who can shoot just in case Hardaway cannot be retained, either we decide not to retain him.
If we decide to not pay Millsap, then we would be fully comitted to reconstruction. Either we can go down that path, either we can resign Paul and any other FA and still be a competitor, as we have Schröder-Bazemore-Hardaway?-Belinelli-Prince-Bembry-Dunleavy-Ilyasova?-Muscala?-rookie C?
