Diamond Stone
Diamond Stone could be the hidden gem in this trade package. First thing that jumps out at you is that he has a jump shot. He is a undersized but long armed post player with above average speed for a C/PF. Could he be a poor man's Al Horford?
From the video, he does look like a post player that Budz likes in his system.
There is a 10% chance that Stone could be a steal throw in player in this trade, like Khris Middleton was a throw in player in that Knight/Jennings trade. It's not fair to say that Stone will become a very good, steal throw in player like Middleton or Marc Gasol or Ben Wallace, but if he is a gym rat with a killer work ethic, and learns Budz' system, he could become a valuable rotation player like Mike Scott, Thabo, or Marreese Speights were a few years ago.

Re: Diamond Stone
Atlanta Braves center fielder was one of those "extra" players added to a deal to make it work.
He's an all star this season. We know things can and do happen.
We're told he's going to summer league and, if he doesn't make the team right now, Hawks have
their own D-League team, for the very first time.

This is disappointing.
That so called three team trade with LAC is getting worse by the week.
<sigh>

Stone had a fully guaranteed contract for $1,312,611 for next season.

Meh. The 1st and the cash were, by far, the main draw of that trade to me. If Stone became anything, it was icing.
Seeing him in SL, this result doesn't surprise me.

The cash does at least cover Stone's guaranteed contract number for the season.
But, another poster tried to convince me that this deal was still a win for us.
...utilizing cap space for a pick, prospect, and contract filler is somehow deemed wasteful? Go figure.
But it's us losing our best player and getting just a late first rounder in return.
That's rough.
I really would have prefer we use that money to sign a decent player, rehab their value and move them in trade.
Or get an actual decent player via trade and later move them for value to a team in need. (Avery Bradley or LaMarcus Aldridge)
NOTE: This wasn't a bad move, per se. But it's far from my favorite.
Add'l NOTE: I REALLY hope Trav isn't over-estimating his drafting abilities...

It never really fell into a win or loss column for me. Just like pretty much everything we did this offseason, it basically is what it was. At the end, we have a 1st where we could've quite likely had nothing. Meh. I don't like it but I also don't expect it to be the norm.
On SausageSchlenk, it may be the value of those 1sts that he's overestimating a la POR this past draft. I mean, we won't be turning 3 mid-round 1sts into a top 5 pick or anything so I hope that's not what he's expecting to do.

That Houston pick may end up better than we think. Honeymoon is over for Harden / D'Antoni and who knows if Paul fits or is healthy.
Since Phx, D'Antoni's teams get worse his 2nd year.

Schlenk did say it was about getting the 1st.
Picks can be used for more than just drafting a player, can be used in trades as well. Combined with one of our young players.
Like you said, pick or nothing? Imma take the pick.
The Hawks asset cupboard was bare, collect as many as you can.

Not bad. Just avg as grits. Looked like a poor man's Greg Monroe to me.
