:D

My, my, how slowly time goes by. Hawk's season comes to an end and the next real activity is so far away.

Then, quiet suddenly, or so it seems, training camp is here and the first pre season is less than a week ahead!

:banghead: Some questions that those "experts" we have in our midst should ask, but will not:
Ask Bud: "How does it feel to be the head coach of the worst team in the NBA?"
Ask any and all Hawk players on our roster: " You know that Atlanta has no players here who could make the
active roster on any other NBA team. How does it feel to be labeled a loser?"

That's what many think - what they believe to be true. All of the good players who was once on this Hawk
roster, many as recently as last season, are gone. All the veteran players couldn't get a job any where else
and their first and second year players are so green they will not be able to help. -

Travis and Bud do not plan to be door mats for the other NBA teams, as many expect. They do not think that
they will be the Washington Generals to all the other teams. Our older, veteran players will be playing for
their NBA life this season. They have one year contracts because, as we all know, Atlanta will have three
first round draft picks next summer and they should get three of the active roster spots.

Our younger players must realize that they all, as a group, have been insulted about their lack of skill and
ability. Talk about playing with a chip on their shoulder, any and all of them, from the oldest to the youngest.

:D When you are on the bottom of the pile, the only direction you can go is up! Even our two pre season
games that are "home" games must be played at some place other than their home court. Then, to open
the season, most of our games are on the road. This may be a good thing, rather than bad. It means more
together time for our young players as they begin to bond as a team.

"They" expect our total wins this season to be somewhere in the mid 20's. Any wins over this will be considered
to be over achieving. Let's see how long it takes to get to that number..

Hey folks! We have a friggin game on Sunday!!! Can't believe we are actually getting to live action. This has been a loooong nba summer.

On another, can anyone figure out how to get tickets for the preseason games at Mccamish? There's no link on the website.

Training Camp Notes from Michael Cunningham (AJC)
1st Team:
Dennis
Baze
Prince
Illyasova
Dedmon

2nd Team:
Delaney
Marco
Bembry (this was surprising since he wasn't expected to be ready, I guess he's a quick healer)
Collins
Muscala

3rd Team:
Cook, Dorsey
Brussino
Babbit
Plumlee

Team was playing at a much faster pace.

I want Collins and Bembry to get a lot of minutes but it's fun to imagine the 3 point barrage that a second team of
Cook, Marco, Burssino, Babbit, Moose
would unleash.

^Agreed. I'm still hopeful Marco makes his way into the starting 5, so he and Ilyasova can combine their deep shooting allowing for Taurean and Dennis to get to the rim at will.

“We will mix and match,” Budenholzer said of the lineups. “We will see how training camp goes, how the preseason goes. I wouldn’t read too much into it as far as groupings today.”

ATHENS–The era of “greater pace, greater space” for the Hawks began during the first practice of training camp today. The session went three-plus hours and the portion open to media featured a lot of transition work. That included possessions with a quick off-ball perimeter screen as soon as the ball crossed midcourt, and also some with quick screens for the ball-handler followed by hard drives to the basket.

Coach Mike Budenholzer said the Hawks will “practice harder” this season.“Part of it is we are a little bit younger but (also) to build up our conditioning, to build up our habits the way we want to play,” he said. “We mentioned yesterday playing with even greater pace. I don’t think that is going to come just by talking about it. We are going to have to practice it, drive the ball, playing with the pass, all those things.

“We are just going to have to practice harder. I think it is going to lead to us executing, competing. And that’s what it is going to take for us this year.”

“Of course. People just didn’t understand everything I had to go through. I signed a deal and, the next day, my brother almost died in my arms. Like, the next day after that. Last summer I didn’t really get to focus as much as I did this year on my game. It was more (a focus) on my family, making sure everybody was straight.

“And then throughout the season I still was dealing with stuff. My family couldn’t really watch as many games in person. I planned on my brother moving to Atlanta with me and (being) my manager, so I didn’t have that. I had the limousine company trying to sue me for somebody coming after us. During the playoffs, I got subpoenaed (to appear) in front of a grand jury, a year after it happened.

“So it was always stuff going on. My brother was going through some stuff with his wife. It was a lot, man. I had to deal with being the top guy and holding everything together with my family, especially financially.

“But everything is good (now). My brother is good. His family situation is good now. I took care of the lawsuit. So this summer has been all basketball. It’s been good for me.”

I would love to see Delaney be an effective shooter this year. He seems like a good guy but it wasn't a good year for him on or off the court obviously. Plus when you saw pictures of guys last year off the court he was always the one who seemed to know how to dress. The other's looked like they shopped at the Nike store and Forever 21. :vent:

Delaney learned to dress from his time in Europe. Look at Dennis, even his Lambo got a tux for prom.

Is anyone else beginning to think that Dewayne Dedmon is really just Greg Oden in disguise?

I'm just sayin'...have you ever seen them both in the same place at the same time?

Can't believe we are about to play a game. Seems unusual to have a game 3 days into camp.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
