FINAL CUTS COMING - JUST AROUND THE CORNER

8-)

Current roster has 18 players listed. I believe Hawks can have two players with a dual contract. They remain
Hawks and go to the G league and our new G league team.

We have more players than slots on our roster. All other NBA teams face this same problem. Too bad we can't
just send them to the G league. We probably can if no one wants them on their NBA team. Maybe not.

Between our next two games against Dallas, one pre season and the next one regular season, we must act.
Lots and lots of borderline players will suddenly hit the open market. As final moves are being comprehended,
will there be moves made by these NBA teams? Are there players available that some teams desire and will sign
them when they are set free? Will there be trades as teams make their final roster moves?

Seems there are several questions facing each and every NBA team that must be answered in the next few days.

Stay awake as the flurry of final moves are upon us in just a few days!!

Your thoughts ?

So the 2 way contracts are Magette and who? We have Cavanaugh and Evans who won't make the team.

The rest of the 15 man roster is set unless we decide to go with 14. In which case i think Cook is gone because Bembry will be our 3rd PG and we have too many 2 guards.

Dennis/Delaney/Cook
Marco/Baze/Bembry/Dorsey
Prince/Babbit/Brussino
Ersan/Collins
Dedmon/Moose/Plumlee

We only have one GL two way contract in Maggette.
Cavanaugh and Evans will most likely be waved. Cavanaugh can sign a regular GLeague contract.
Cook signed a 2 year deal - $100,000.00 guaranty with a player option in year 2. I think if the Hawks release him and he goes to GL, his rights are owned by the Pelicans.

Hawks have waived several players to get down to what must be: All you are allowed.

John Jenkins
Jordan Mathews
tyler Cavanaugh
Quinn Cook
Jeremy Evans
Richard Jefferson
Kay Fielder

The last two were traded to Atlanta by Cleveland, along with enough cash to pay them off and two second round
draft pick, one protected so we probably will not get it. Cleveland gets two of our players who are over seas
and probably never coming to the NBA.

Cleveland sheds payroll and two unwanted players and the Hawks really net one second round draft pick out
of all this. Second round picks are sometimes added to a deal to make it work. We got that from this deal.

No surprises on who was waived. All had already been mentioned before.

10/18/2017 is approaching rapidly. Pre season games are over. Roster is set. Now, the games count. Hawks
will have a long wait before they have that first home game. "On the road again!" Remember that old country
song? That's us.

Bud explains why Cook was cut:
1. To facilitate Cavs trade
2. Keep roster flexibility with 15th open roster spot
3. Magette

I think he kept him cuz he reminded Bud of himself...that's fine though neither would make a huge impact on the court.

So Magette is currently our 3rd point guard going into the season.
If I understand the GL two-way contract thing correctly, he'll be with the big club until the GLeague starts Nov. 3rd. The 45 day clock with his NBA team doesn't start until then.

Hawks roster set. Here’s what it looks like

The Hawks roster is set for now after the team released Quinn Cook, Jeremy Evans and Tyler Cavanaugh tonight.

Cook is the most surprising of the cuts. The Hawks signed Cook as a possible third point guard and paid him $100,000 guarantee. But the team released Cook before he was owed another $300,000 on Wednesday and now have Josh Magette as the third point guard on the roster.

Cavanaugh’s...expected to join the Hawks’ G-League affiliate if he clears waivers.

The Hawks roster now stands at 14 players, one less than the maximum. That doesn’t include Magette, who is on a “two-way” contract that allows a maximum of 45 days on the NBA roster with the balance of the season spent at the team’s G-League affiliate in Erie, PA.

The Hawks have 12 players with fully guaranteed contracts. Two players have partially-guaranteed contracts: Luke Babbitt and Nicolas Brussino.

Wonder if he chooses this over GLeague?

In the past I thought leaving the states was a death sentence for your NBA chances, but not so much anymore. If the money was big I'd go to europe for a season and then try NBA again next year.

That's good news. Make some money and see the world while you can still play professionally. I know everyone wants to play in the NBA but there are a lot of opportunities out there in the world.
