PROBLEMS? We've all got problems.

TANK! We all knew, before the season began, this was to be a rebuilding year for the Atlanta Hawks.
None of us, even the most optimistic, like me, expected great things out of this team. However, we
did not expect to lose every night we played. What is the problem, or problems with our team?

1- We hear and we believe, that our starting center is doing well, Dedmon has exceeded expectations.
2- Rookie Collins has improved. He just keeps on getting better and better.
3- PF - Collins is the answer, but he's been back up center. We knew we would miss Millsap here. (And we do)
4- SF - Prince continues to improve and impress and as become a leader in his second year.
5- SG - Bazemore can be good at times, tries too hard, perhaps, but can play great defense. Will steal.
6- PG - Dennis runs hot and cold. When he's hot, he's hot and when he's not he tries to be anyway.

Every game this team plays, they somehow manage to keep the score close. If they fall behind early, they
will and do fight back and catch up with most any opponent. How many teams can brag, "We blew away
the lowly Hawks!" Hasn't happened too often, has it.

As we look over our team, almost every player we see, we can say, "He's improved since the season started."
Yet, our early season road games were so close, but no wins. Now, our games are all so close, yet no wins.
This team plays hard. They don't seem to ever give up until the very end.

In our last win, everything went right. Hawks played good defense and their shots fell. That proved that they
are capable. But, coming up so close, time after time, only to taste defeat, is getting old. What is the problem?
This Hawk team ain't great. We all know that. But, they are good and improving.

The Problem - High end talent to close out games. Too many mistakes like missed free throws and untimely turnovers and Delaney is not a PG.
The young players Prince and Collins are improving with each game - just need consistency.

Talent. We lack top end talent. Most of our starting lineup is best suited to be backups. Most of our backups are inexperienced.

The team is trying. But we just aren't very talented.

The fact we've been such a tough out for good teams is a testament to the coach and the grit of the players.

Lack of talent. I agree. We come up short here.

BUT

When this season began, on the road, Hawks were "almost there" game after game, coming up just short.
Since that time, for the most part, as I stated, our players, with as much talent as possible, have improved
quiet a bit. Yet, we continue to lose.

In baseball, one of the most important players on any team, the closing pitcher. Some where, some way,
our Hawks basketball team seems to be short a "Closer." Some one to take over the game, late, and carry
us to victory.

Perhaps, in next year's draft, our "closer" is just awaiting Atlanta to pick him! We can only hope...
