The Tyler Cavanaugh thread - 2017-18 season

Hawks rookie with a dual contract - G League and NBA - has become a favorite of some posters here, including
yours truly. Sure, he's a rook.

Sure, there's a lot of things he needs to learn to become a good NBA player. That being said, we're told that
he has a very good NBA IQ. willing and able to learn. He started at center. Next game, he wasn't allowed
onto the floor until the middle of the 4th quarter with the game obviously lost. He lit things up.

In our last game, a two point, last second loss, he never left the bench. Nothing much was going our way,
yet Tyler was nailed to the bench.

Some of us wonder what is going on. No one has said that he is or has been injured. If not injured, then
he must be in Bud's dog house. We know all about players being a resident there because of one of our
former head coached. Remember? Yet, we don't know this either.

Seems that we have a mystery on our hands. - - - Any one know anything ???

I don't think he's really in the dog house. I think his minutes are down because John Collins has returned to the rotation. He's been a pleasant surprise but I don't see him as a center and you can only play so many PFs at once.

I think we'll see a lot more of him but Bud's only going to play so many guys a game (unless there's a blowout) so I think he's giving everyone a good look. You can tell that Cavanaugh knows what he's doing. Good rebounding and good shooting will keep a guy employed for a long time.

Wow. What the heck. I'm all for it but was that necessary? Wasn't he already under contract with us?

I wonder if Josh Magette is up in Pennsylvania like:

(How many G-League All Star Game selections does that dude have to get to warrant a similar contract offer in the NBA?)

Didn't this FO learn anything with the 2-yr deals of Carroll and Milsap? Isn't Wilcox lurking around in an advisory position somewhere with the specific job of warning AGAINST 2-yr deals? If he's not, he should be.

1) I don't think Wilcox still has access to the facility. Pretty sure all the locks were changed to keep him off the premises and away from Budenholzer at all costs.

2) I do wonder about this deal. I hope it's similar to the Austin Daye 2 yr contract which turned out to be unguaranteed. Otherwise...this is indeed a weird commitment to make to a sub par player.

He signed a 2 way GLeague contract in which he was alowed to be with the big club for a max of 45 days. I think he has now surpassed his 45 days with all the injuries we had.
He initially signed a 2 year GL contract so I will assume it's a similar 2 year NBA contract for the remainder of this year and next (most likely unguaranteed).
This now opens up a spot for another 2way GLEAGUE contract for some other player.

Hawks can still bring him back. My guess is they didn't want to guarantee his salary.
