Game Thread: Bulls at Hawks -- 1/20

The Bulls begin a three-game road swing this afternoon against a Hawks team that is in a MAJOR rebuild. The Hawks run is officially over and that’s an understatement. The days of Horford, Milsap, Teague and Korver are in the rearview mirror. The Hawks have bottomed out and are counting on securing if not the number one pick, certainly a top three selection.
The Bulls will be without Kris Dunn, who in in the league’s concussion protocol. Dunn is out indefinitely. He will be sorely missed, but this is a great opportunity for Jerian Grant to step up and get back on track. He’s 1-20 from three point range. Grant will start and we could see Zach LaVine at some point as well. LaVine, according to Coach Hoiberg, will see his minutes increase to 24 per game, which is up from 20 minutes in his first three contests.

For at least the 1st quarter, Hawks tank is running like a well oiled machine!

Highlight of the game was old heads, Charlie Criss and Jim Washington tearing Dennis' game apart (not in a bad way, necessarily) during their in-game fluff interview.
Criss admitted he didn't like Dennis at first.
Washington said a huge part of his effectiveness is his quick first step but, more importantly, the fact that he goes up off the wrong foot which disrupts the defense's timing.
Went on to say Dennis will get to the next level once he realizes what he got mid-game will not be available in crunch time.
Cool to hear them break it down.
Eta: I feel smarter for having heard that interview. Now I know how yall feel when you read my posts. Hehe

Well, at least we didn't blow this loss. "Don't score much inside." Hah! Slam dunk after slam dunk, on and on.
These guys are too close to us. In this game, fans got to see everyone play. Entire team couldn't buy a three
until late in the game. Cleared the bench and these guys hit. Too big was the gap, therefore it didn't really
matter. But, it was nice to see those guys make some shots from downtown.

One of the worst played games of the season, but important for the tank. I don't think we have to worry about the Bulls in our pursuit for that top pick.

Brutal game but good for the tank.
I'm happy beating playoff teams like the Spurs and Pels and I'm Ok losing to teams that's our tank competition.

Markkanen is the real deal...wow...wouldn't be surprised if he's the best player of the 2017 draft in 5 years..kind of eerie that Markk was 7th overall in 2017 and his counterpart comparison went 9th overall in 1998.

^yeah, he's far exceeded any of my expectations this year.
Markannen did not sound like a 20-year-old rookie in his remarks after the game. ““I just try to be a complete player,” he said. “That was their (defensive) game plan, but I can do much more than just shoot. I missed I don’t know how many three’s today, but that wasn’t going for me tonight, so I figured I’d do something else.”
“I know I can’t just shoot threes,” he added. “I’ve got to get to the rim. Eventually that’s going to open a lot more space for three-pointers so I try to mix it up.”
