Maybe we have one currently on the roster to groom.

Dewayne Dedmon shows he can be more than NBA backup

Dedmon has played well for the Hawks. But it’s notable that when coach Mike Budenholzer is asked about Dedmon’s performance, he often segues to Dedmon’s impact on the team’s culture.

Dedmon said it’s “tough” to keeps spirits high on a team with the worst record in the NBA.

This, I think, will be the issue in retaining/signing veteran free agents the next couple of years.

Instead, GM Travis Schlenk has said his plan is to use that space to absorb salaries in trades from teams looking to shed money while acquiring draft picks and promising young players. Schlenk predicts that as many as 16 teams will be subject to the luxury tax next season, meaning there could be several teams looking to make cost-saving deals.

The Hawks have the flexibility to make such deals because they have just seven players with fully guaranteed contracts for next season Three of those players have relatively cheap rookie-scale contracts for first-round draft picks and another will make the league minimum salary. The Hawks will add four more players in the upcoming draft.

This is the smart way of going about things. Laying the foundation brick by brick. Part of me was hoping that we'd land an impactful FA to expedite this rebuild though.

Like you, I hoped for a star free agent signing, even if I knew the chances are slim. Travis Schlenk is doing it the right way so I support that. I doubt we keep all three first round picks this year so I do expect us to move up in the draft or gamble one for a future first round pick.

It's also saying to Bud that he won't have the best competitive team they can build this summer for the next season, but a team helping to build a better one in 2019-20, or later... Ihope that Bud has the patience to do it

I can't lie, I'm really liking this Rozier cat. BOS free-agent risk be d*mned, if we move on from Dennis, he'd be a good pickup.

If he ends up being Speedy Claxton, I'll never admit to saying any of this.

Bear with me guys... Jusuf Nurkic. Been advocating to bring him here since before his NBA career began. Blazers might not want to pay him with Zach Collins' emergence and with so many more players either on the books for large deals or soon to be on the books.

You know I’m having issues with this whole Bud thing and you hit me with late night squinting...

 :nonono:

Good one though I like Rozier...and is there any way to pry Ferguson from OKC? That kid just looks like a solid dude.

With cap space being at a premium this offseason, it can jack the price for teams wanting to rid themselves of the contracts.

I think the goal should be to have cap space for the 2020 offseason and make a push then.

Under our prior regime, getting a dude like Ferg or Beasley from DEN would be a no-brainer. Now? Who knows.

For my birthday, I want a #19.3 (or whatever our capspace figure ends up being) jersey with "Space" on the back. Since, ya know, the first name would be "Cap".

We are going to give up picks in order to get Ferguson? OKC loves him plus he is cost controlled. Same applies for Beasley.

It has nothing to do with Schlenk v.s. Budcox as GM, it has everything to do with the other team likely not wanting to deal them.

I think you missed the point. Kg was naming prototype Bud style players, not so much whether or not they were on the table.
